This doesn't stop them drafting one or both of the players with a later round pick.
Williams or Johnston may be drafted in the 4th or 5th round.
Sam Sheldon is also staying with Oakleigh for another season and isn't in this draft.

Tomi Johnston and Jake Williams would provide Carlton with some much-needed good publicity. If either player makes it to AFL level it will be a story of success against the odds. But more importantly both players do have the ability to play AFL, and have skills that could get them drafted by someone even if Carlton pass.
If Carlton get to pick 67, or even pick 83, and they pass on a son of one of their premiership heroes then it will be hard for them to explain that to their fans. Pick 35 was too early a pick to use on one of them, but no reason for them to not take one or both of the players late in the national draft.
