Gibbs is one player that Carlton pick every week, he deserves his spot in the team due to his play and not where he was drafted. Joel Selwood was only included in Geelong's side for round 12 because Max, the artist formerly known as Jared, Rooke was suspended. Selwood should have done more than enough to keep his spot in the Geelong team.
Carlton may have lost by 100 points but Gibbs was one of their best, the reason for that was his opponent was one of the few Hawks who was kept quiet. It was Gibbs against McGlynn for a lot of the game, McGlynn did get a shot at goal but that was from a free that was given away by another Blue.
Joel Selwood seemed to enjoy the conditions at Kardinia Park on the weekend, it was wet, windy and slippery and made for someone who would go in hard. His skills got him a mention among Geelong's best VFL players for the previous round and his attack at the ball against the Lions saw him named as Geelong's second best this week. It is not bad to come second to Gary Ablett.
Gibbs and Selwood get a week to rest now. They will both be involved in huge games for round 13, that affect different ends of the ladder. Carlton go to Fremantle, the loser of that game might as well raise the white flag for the season. Geelong host Sydney, the winner of that game will be a favourite to play in the 2007 AFL Grand Final. At Subiaco, there is a chance that Gibbs will be assigned to Jeff Farmer, although after their 100 point loss there might be a change in thinking at Carlton and Gibbs could finally be freed to run around the middle where he belongs. Selwood and the Cats are going to learn what it takes to win as they battle Kirk, Fosdike, L Ablett, Crouch, J Bolton and the rest of the hard-working Swans midfield.
