The AFL Fantasy Team That Should Have Been Picked
The following team might have been possible to assemble before the 2007 AFL season began. There were reasons before the season as to why the players may not have performed as well this year, but the early games have shown they are worth their fantasy prices, and are probably actually worth a lot more.
B: A McPhee – The addition of Michael was supposed to turn McPhee into a much better player for statistics and that has happened.
B: J Adcock – Is really one of the best fantasy defenders now.
B: A McLeod - There was talk that he might play as a forward, that might not have been helpful to his stats, McLeod was left in the back line and is in his 1997/1998 form.
B: D Jacobs - He was a good fantasy player in 2006 before his injury, he has picked up where he left off with fantasy points.
B: A Walker – Always athletic, his football skills are much better and that has boosted his fantasy points this season.
B: D Gaspar - Imagine someone boasting before the season began that they had Darren Gaspar in their fantasy team. But right now they would be laughing as Gaspar has performed.
B: C Newman - It was a bad injury he had so there was the chance he might not play well, so far he has been one of the Tigers' best players and a big help for fantasy teams.
C: D Kerr – Plenty of reasons why he might not perform, but none have slowed him down yet. One of the best for fantasy points through the first 3 rounds.
C: D Rodan - The coaches in the AFL should know their stuff, so when they delist someone it usually means they can't play. Rodan showed this was wrong in the NAB Cup and he has continued that during the real games for fantasy points.
C: B Gibbs – He was supposed to be ready, but didn’t have any really big games during preseason, his performances are now bringing in a lot of points and his fantasy value will keep going up all season.
C: J Winderlich - On the outside of the senior team until this year, he is now a big part of their midfield.
C: B Harvey - The Kangaroos have quite a few problems and some of their veterans are slowing down, Harvey could be speeding up.
C: H Scotland - The Blues finished last in 2006 when part of their strategy was to let Scotland run around half back and the middle and accumulate huge totals of fantasy points. If they changed Scotland's role it could have reduced his stats, but they didn't and Scotland is now even more valuable for fantasy teams.
R: B Lade – When Brogan is out Lade really increases his stats, and Brogan is out of the lineup once again.
R: D Jolly - The reason not to pick him was that Everitt had arrived, but so far both big Swans are helping fantasy teams.
F: J Koschitzke - Eveyone knows that Koschitzke is injury-prone, so there was a reason to avoid him in fantasy teams. There isn't a reason now as he is the bargain of fantasy key position players.
F: B Fisher - They have other options, like big Mr Kennedy, but Fisher quietly goes about his business in the forward line and contributes a lot of fantasy points through his marks, kicks and goals.
F: B Fevola - There was talk that he had a mystery knee problem, that has been forgotten about.
F: S Lucas - It made sense that Lucas overachieved last season when most of the other forwards were out injured, but Lucas is playing better now than in 2006.
F: M Lloyd – He missed a lot of time after injuring himself early last season, but he is the same player and producing for fantasy teams again.
F: B Staker - He wasn't in their team that won last season and the Eagles often struggle to find a position to play him in, but Staker is in the team again and is playing in a variety of roles.
F: D Thomas – He was good for fantasy teams last season, and better now.
B: T Boyle - His spot at Hawthorn was supposed to be filled by Dowler, Thorp or Murphy. Boyle has been a solid player for fantasy teams, especially in the first two games.
B: A Toovey – An unexpected move by Collingwood last week, he kicked some goals and kept his spot in the team.
C: R Hadley - It has been over 2 years since he played, and he wasn't expected to return so early in season 2007.
C: N Lappin - A lot of his teammates in Brisbane have retired, and it seemed that injuries were going to make that a possibility for Lappin. He is back, although he did miss a few games with a new injury.
R: P Ryder - The ruck spot seemed too crowded for tall, but thin, Ryder to get a run. Sheedy surprised all by making Ryder a big defender. Fantasy coaches are surprised by the stats that Ryder can bring in.
R: C Cloke - The Carlton coach was supposed to have wanted Zantuck at the end of the preseason draft and not one of the Cloke family. Now Cameron Cloke is playing minutes in the ruck and getting enough fantasy points when compared to his low starting price.
F: Alwyn Davey – Sheedy said that he wasn’t going to risk the new players in their big round 1 game in Adelaide, then he put Davey and Jetta into the team and they are still there.
F: T Hawkins - Geelong said he was too young and would not play a lot, they left him out for round 1 and lost big, he has been in ever since and is kicking goals like a veteran.
B: A McPhee – The addition of Michael was supposed to turn McPhee into a much better player for statistics and that has happened.
