The 1997 Collingwood Bulldogs
FB Rohan Smith, Mal Michael, Shane Watson
HB Leon Cameron, Craig Ellis, Gavin Crosisca
C Paul Williams, Scott West, Scott Russell
HF Anthony Rocca, Chris Grant, Brad Johnson
FF Nathan G Brown, Saverio Rocca, Gavin Brown
Foll Scott Wynd, Nathan Buckley, Tony Liberatore
bench Damian Monkhorst, Scott Burns,
Graham Wright, Luke Darcy
emergency Jose Romero, Andrew Schauble, Josh Mahoney
With the recent talk that a Collingwood and Footscray merger was once discussed, here is what a combined side might have looked like. Although back in 1997 they would not have had 4 on the bench.
Size in the ruck would be a big advantage for the combined team, and there were plenty of skilled midfielders to use the ball properly. The forward line would have been the best in the league, with plenty of tall options complemented by medium and small forwards. The back line also had plenty of run, and was adequate for height.

That was considered, but Grant was at his best when he was a forward.
But your logic is also very good, as there wasn't room for two Roccas in the Collingwood forward line there may not have been room for both of them and Grant.
Thank you for your comment.
