Sydney and West Coast a year on. No Williams, Ball or Gardiner.

The teams contesting this year's AFL Grand Final are the same, and while most of the players are back there are three veterans from 2005 who won't be playing.

Jason Ball started his career with a premiership for the Eagles and retired after winning it again for the Swans against his former team. Jolly and Ball shared the ruck duties last time, now Jolly has to do a bit more although the Swans will have Doyle to support him.

Paul Williams wanted to help the Swans win another one but after 12 games this season he was injured and retired. Malceski didn't play last year and he may be the player in the midfield who has a big game if the Eagles concentrate too much on Kirk, Goodes and Bolton.

The Eagles are just changing one huge forward for another as Gardiner was their hope last year and now it is Quinten Lynch who the Eagles need to kick a winning score. Unlike Ball and Williams, Michael Gardiner didn't retire. Coach Worsfold gave him several chances but Gardiner didn't grab them, he also didn't get many grabs in the last AFL Grand Final. Gardiner had only 2 marks, and no goals, against a shortish Sydney defense. If the result is going to be different this time, then it could be Lynch who is the reason.

Jolly might not be playing, should his wife give birth on the day of the grand final, shes due on october 16 but her family has a history of giving birth two weeks early.

If thats the case it will be a huge loss for Sydney, with the Eagles having Cox and Seaby.

Should be another classic grand final and hopefully Jolly does play, as you want to see the best 22 from each side out their battling it out on the last Saturday in September

If Jolly doesn't play then Goodes will have to have a huge game for Sydney to win.
Roos doesn't have a lot of ruck options, and Goodes is better than Doyle or LRT.

I went to watch my first AFL game on Friday night, watching the Swans take apart the Dockers... fun!

Good to hear about new fans and their first AFL game.
You certainly picked an important game to attend.
