The Bulldogs have a lot of youth with class but rely on the veterans Johnson, Grant, West and now Akermanis. Like Melbourne, they also have a coach who has taken a team to the last game of the year.
Carlton would need the dominance of West Coast, Sydney, Fremantle and Adelaide to continue for several years for them to develop a contender with Murphy, Kennedy, the players they draft in a few weeks, and their other youth. This is something that could happen, not specifically Carlton getting there, but the interstate teams dominating for a few more years and the next Victorian powerhouse is a team that currently is very young and will need a couple of years to improve.
