Do you think that for the first 3 rounds i should get players with a low price who have played 3 or more matches last year rather than draft picks because their price wouldn't increase until round 4, then when they increase i sell them and make a profit or forget about the top draft picks e.g gibbs and selwood? for the AFL Website
Also your thoughts on Wells, Raines, Croad, Franklin, and Ottens.
Thank you

The best idea is to pick out which players, of the low cost ones, that you think will start the season better. Maybe that is a high pick from the AFL National Draft, someone who has just been brought off a rookie list or a player who has been in the league for a couple of years and is now ready to play.

It is often best to wait a month or so before trading away a player for a profit, unless injuries or poor form on your team makes a trade necessary earlier. Sometimes after a month the player who started at a low price is worthy of starting every round and you can trade another player instead.

Daniel Wells: The Dream Team stats have not been that good to him, which also means that Wells doesn’t cost a huge amount. Could be value at his current price.

Andrew Raines: An affordable player, and more improvement from him would be expected in 2007.

Trent Croad: His best statistics might have come when he went forward and that role probably isn’t there this season. They might play him at full back and that is not a good spot for fantasy points.

Lance Franklin: For his potential, and his NAB Cup form, Franklin seems to be undervalued in fantasy games. He should be a popular player at the start of the fantasy season, and there is no reason why he can’t average 3 goals a game and bring in plenty of marks and he is also capable when it comes to tackling. Goals and tackles bring in a lot of fantasy points.

Brad Ottens: His NAB Cup game was an impressive display. He is among the elite fantasy ruckmen but his price is a bit cheaper than the very best, his goals will be very useful for fantasy points so he is a player to consider signing.

Fraser, White, Cox, Lade especially when Brogan is out, Simmonds when he is healthy and also Hille.

The Cats’ two big forwards can be played as fantasy ruckmen, so if Ottens and Mooney kick goals it will make them good options in the ruck for fantasy teams, just due to the fantasy points. Sydney’s duo of Everitt and Jolly is an unknown factor, although they were good in preseason, Everitt might also be up in the elite ruckmen group.

Hi,

It’s certainly a loaded forward line. If two or three of your forwards kick a huge bag of goals in the same round it could get you close to the weekly prize. Gehrig had a big game last season, finishing with around 10 goals for the game, that put him in the top 3 or maybe it was the number 1 spot for fantasy points for that round. If several forwards do that on the same weekend it would result in a big score, and you have the forwards to do it.

You have Cox and also three other ruckmen who might be worth starting at some time during the fantasy season. As only two ruckmen are started this season, compared to four in other years, you might be able to save a bit of money by just having a really cheap option as your 4th ruckman.
You have five young midfielders who should all increase their value in fantasy leagues. There is a bit of uncertainty about Yze at Melbourne, he might not be as good for fantasy points as he was before. Priddis is playing without Cousins, Pendlebury starts the season with Buckley out injured, those two could be fantasy steals if their teams give them plenty of playing time.

All fantasy teams have some risky picks, it will be interesting to watch how Koschitzke and N Ablett go to start the season. Ablett is healthy but will be the third forward option if he plays, and at the Saints they would like to kick it to Koschitzke in the forward line but he isn’t back to his best yet. If you have Ramanauskas there because you are a fan or because you didn’t have any money to spend there is no problem, but right now it doesn’t look like he will be playing. You might find a couple of bargain Kangaroos to add, Lindsay Thomas in the middle and Aaron Edwards if you want to change your forwards.

You could try Fevola, he is quite a lot cheaper than J Brown or Lloyd.

who is a cheap midfielder. that is very good.
Rodan had a big preseason with the Power, if he keeps that up for the real games he will be useful as his fantasy price is very low. The Crows have some injury problems and Chris Knights might play a lot more this season. If the Cats play Joel Selwood he will get plenty of possessions.

What do you think of Deledio, M Murphy, Bock, Embley, Milburn, McLeod, Goddard, Corey Jones, Aaron Davey and Rob Murphy???

Deledio: Good value at his price.
M Murphy: A bargain.
Bock: He’s probably their centre half forward now, his price is right compared to his potential.
Embley: His role and fantasy points probably similar to last season.
Milburn: Has a big price, stats could go down if Thompson changes things up in Geelong.
McLeod: Probably worth the price, it doesn’t look like he will go forward too much.
Goddard: A great player last season, maybe his price is too high now.
Corey Jones: A very useful player and is a chance to kick a lot more goals.
Aaron Davey: Is a bit more expensive than Neitz, the bigger forward might be better.
Rob Murphy: His price is too high as his role could be very different this season and he is coming back from an injury, a few games will be needed to get an idea of where he will play.

whats your take on a few of the guys coming back from injury this season. ie- Nathan Brown, Luke Darcy, warren tredrae and Justin Koschitzke? Also what about guys who have been through some controversy like Jason Akermanis, Mal Michael and half the eagles roster?
13. March 25th 2007 @ 07:06. Sports Insider Says:
whats your take on a few of the guys coming back from injury this season.

Nathan Brown: He has been playing well in the preseason games and his fantasy price makes him affordable, he should be a very useful player in fantasy leagues this season.

Luke Darcy: There was a highlight from the practice match against the Eagles, he took a mark around 50 and then faked left and ran around the man on the mark and went in to kick a goal. That showed he is ready, at least in the forward line. His fantasy price is low too, his stats could depend on their round 1 lineup and if both Minson and Street are also playing.

Warren Tredrea: If fantasy coaches want Tredrea they could use Ebert or Mahoney in a forward spot and then trade the Port forward for Tredrea when he comes back. With Tredrea’s fantasy price, he should be a good fantasy player when he does return and is back in game-shape.

Justin Koschitzke: His fantasy price is nearly a fourth of his cost 12 months ago, Koschitzke will probably be on a lot of fantasy teams as his price is so low. He doesn’t even have to star to be value for his fantasy cost, but he actually could star so it will make sense to have him on rosters early, and his cost is so low he could even be left in a bench spot.

Jason Akermanis: It’s a bit of a gamble as his role is still to be figured out by Coach Eade. His fantasy price might be a bit high if he spends a lot of time forward, he could have plenty of time in the middle and would get enough stats in that spot. While it might be best to wait a couple of games before investing in Akermanis, if he does start the season with a big game then those who had him from the start will be winning.

Mal Michael: There are many cheaper options for backmen in fantasy leagues. If his price was lower he might be useful but there are other fantasy backmen with a cheaper price and they will spend more time in the action, compared to Michael at full back.

Daniel Kerr: His stats should be the same as last year, there isn’t a big risk in playing him because if something does happen and the Eagles don’t play him then he can be just traded for someone at a similar price like Enright or Sherman.

Andrew Embley: If he plays in the middle more he could see a small increase in fantasy points, but he can also be played in a forward spot for a fantasy team which also helps.

Daniel Chick: It might not be a good idea to have him on fantasy teams, he doesn’t get a lot of stats and if the Eagles do play him it could be in an off the bench role.

Have I gone too light on midfielders? There's only 2 big names, plus Murphy.

How is my defence balance? I've loaded up with 4 'stars' and I'm taking a risk on Koschitzke, but if he fails I hope the 2 roos can stand up.

I've overloaded the forward line, but I think Brown will be key at Brisbane with Bradshaw out. Pavlich/Fevola/Lynch/Gehrig should all go close to 100 goals, and I feel Brown is value. Too much $ spent here?

I have no idea who should captain, and are there too many drafts instead of tried and tested players?

1.should i do anything to my team to inprove it?

1: Your forwards are very good. The ruck spot is loaded with good players, you may want to move Street if he isn’t named for round 1. For the centres, you might have 7 big names but can only play 6, so sell one of them as you don’t want too much money tied up on your bench. You could use the extra money to add to your back line.

2: On Thursday you can check to see if your players are named for round 1, most of your players are reportedly healthy, you might want to check about Goodwin as he has been out for a lot of the preseason but he should be available for the Crows.

3: There are a few defenders who might not get many fantasy points, you have 3 or 4 stars but some other players might not do a lot. Gilbee is a great pick, whichever Fisher you have gets plenty of the ball for the Saints, Adcock is another solid pick, Solomon is a bit of a risk and Hansen might do enough to be a starter as the Kangaroos are now without a couple more talls. Ellis is worth a spot on your bench, and the Hawks might play him with Crawford and Vandenberg out. Thorp, A Everitt and Baird may not play.

It does look like there is too much youth in the middle, as you will need one of Gibbs, Selwood or Thomas to play very well from their first game. Those three and Rodan could all play great, they might spend a lot of time on the bench for their first game with their new club or maybe some of them are not selected for round 1. Next Thursday will give some idea, and you can adjust your team if needed.

The backs look very good. If Hansen starts the season well, and Koschitzke stays healthy, you could have a loaded team for defenders.

The forward line should bring in plenty of fantasy points. There is no problem with spending big if the players are great, and your forwards are. It’s only a small part of your team but maybe you don’t want Hawkins. As you picked Ottens, you actually don’t want Hawkins to be out there as it could mean Ottens is out injured, but also Hawkins won’t get a good run for a few weeks if not longer. You might be able to have a different forward, or have L Hansen as a bench forward, and if Hawkins is in the Geelong team after a month you could still trade for him.

Cornes or Bowden would be solid picks to be captain. You could also see who your star forwards are playing, and if one of them is a chance to kick a big lot of goals then they could be captain for that round. The easiest decision would be to just put Judd as captain.

Probably too many draft picks for your centre spots, with at least one more veteran in the middle you would have more of a guarantee for how many points they would get. Fantasy games can be won by those who have different strategies, so it could work with the youngsters but it is expecting a lot from players who haven’t played AFL.

Not sure about Polak, Dempster, McPhee and Cooney

If McPhee and Cooney are there for round 1 they should bring in plenty of stats. McPhee could increase his stats to be comparable with Lovett-Murray, which would see his fantasy price also go up a bit. Cooney's price isn't that high compared to many other fantasy midfielders so he should be good value.

Polak is a bit of a gamble when you look at his numbers last season. Maybe the NAB Cup game is an indication of how he will go with the Tigers, he was around 20 possessions. Another way to predict Polak's numbers is to look at Kellaway from last season, Polak should be able to replicate those fantasy points but at a much lower fantasy price than Kellaway had last season.

There are a few other options at Dempster's price, like Bizzell or Gwilt from the Saints. Dempster spent a lot of time on the bench last season so it is expected that he will play more in 2007. Bevan, Schneider and LRT are out so Dempster should have more stats.

It's a very good team loaded with talented players. Your back line has many midfielder types and should have a lot of fantasy points. If you are still unsure about some of your defenders, you could put Cornes in the back line and add a low-priced forward to your team.

Those players are good selections. Their fantasy prices accurately reflect their expected fantasy points. Your team has plenty of stars at all positions. Nigel Lappin and Bizzell could recapture their past form but they have been out of the game for a while and they might not be good for fantasy teams for the early rounds.

Goddard should be the best, the other two are very close. Maybe Bowden as he is younger and at Geelong they have more depth around Milburn, not that Milburn won't get fantasy stats too.

some top price forwards

Use the averages from last season, and J Brown and Lloyd were the best. B Hall, B Johnson, Chapman and Pavlich were other great forwards. A healthy N Riewoldt would be in the top group too.

The new in the back interpretation has helped Fevola during preseason, and other strong forwards like Richardson and Neitz could benefit too. A healthy W Tredrea would be in the group with them too.

They are good questions and only round 1 will really show what could happen for the season. Tarrant was brought in with the idea of him playing around half forward and even up on the wings as a big marking target. He could use his athleticism and the space of Subiaco to dominate in a role that he reportedly really wants. If Tarrant doesn't want to play close to goal, near Pavlich, maybe Tarrant actually increases the inside 50s and Pavlich might increase his goal production.

The Johnson situation at the Bulldogs has a few more parts to it, not just the addition of Akermanis. If Darcy is ready to go, Grant is healthy and played forward, and there is McDougall too, the Bulldogs will have more than Johnson and Robbins in their forward line. There certainly could be a reduction in goals by Johnson, and there is also the opportunity for him to go into the middle more where he can get more possessions. Even if Johnson has a different role his fantasy points should still be among the leaders.

Chad Cornes should be very good, there isn't any reason why he won't continue to bring in huge fantasy points. Milburn also can get a lot of points, he should do it again in 2007 but if Geelong start to struggle and look to change things then Milburn might be a player that gets shuffled around.

Rocca and Ebert are good options, although Rocca would be better if Cloke wasn’t named and Ebert will also share the Power forward line with more marking options than expected.

Staker would be someone who is overlooked by many fantasy coaches. He can run like a midfielder and mark the ball in a key position so he has potential for big numbers.

A lot of people will be signing Franklin. It’s not his exciting play on the field, the reason is his fantasy price seems a bit low.

Brad Miller is another player who is underpriced for his possible stats. Russell Robertson could be another Melbourne forward to consider.

Is Wojcinski a good choice

Wojcinski has always been a very talented, and fast, player but there have been times when injuries have stopped him. At his current fantasy price he should be a good option. It looks like he could be a bargain and if he plays like he did in preseason he should have a significant price increase, and will bring in a good amount of fantasy points. Maybe in couple of weeks Geelong make some changes, and Kelly will be available then, but right now Wojcinski is a good signing for fantasy teams.

Michael Johnson is suspended, the incident was in the Kangaroos NAB Cup game. As Monfries was named on the extended bench it is a concern, Staker is at a similar price to Monfries and with Hansen out Staker could begin the year with some good games. If you can afford it, Waite might be someone to sign instead of Monfries. Brad Miller or Jay Schulz are much cheaper options too.

For a similar price Mundy is a good player. That could be the way to go. But if you want Johnson, and he will be good when he is back in the team, then maybe Grover or possibly Hayden could be signed. Their prices could go up a bit and when Johnson returns they could be traded for him, as long as you have a bit of extra money available too.

41. March 30th 2007 @ 04:47. Sports Insider Says:
Browne has such a low price that it is worth adding him to a fantasy bench. As long as Farmer is suspended there will be a role for Browne with the Dockers.

Looking at the forward line that Fremantle named, it is all height. Pavlich, Solomon, Tarrant, Longmuir, Crowley and Headland. They will want Browne out there to compliment their talls.

Browne averaged around 15 possessions in the NAB Cup, and most of those were kicks. He also kicked goals. With Farmer out, and Medhurst traded, and with Browne in good form he should help fantasy teams as his price goes up. Maybe have him as an emergency.

Bock is a good pick, and compared to other forwards at the same or a lower price he is a safe pick.

Lance Franklin and Justin Koschitzke might be other players to consider. Brad Miller from Melbourne and Bock's teammates Scott Welsh and Jason Porplyzia are others.

Bock was good in the NAB Cup, with plenty of kicks, some marks and a couple of goals. He should consistently bring in fantasy points.

You might have a couple of injured or suspended players. You will want to use a couple of trades next week. Neither of your emergency ruckmen are going to be playing soon, so you might want to designate a centre and forward as your other emergencies. See how your players perform this round, and then on Thursday night or Friday make a couple of trades to strengthen your team. Maybe Bizzell should go, as Rivers could be playing next week and that could keep Bizzell out of the Melbourne lineup again.

Why do coaches not select Brad Johnston from the Dogs?

Brad Johnson will certainly be on many more fantasy teams this week after his huge game. Even some of the Bulldogs thought Johnson could have less goals with the addition of Akermanis and McDougall, and the return of Darcy. His 8 goals answered any questions people had about his production this season.
49. April 2nd 2007 @ 13:38. Sports Insider Says:
When will the prices of each player change for AFL Dream team, and are nigel lappin, and fiora good consistent choices?

This was from the Dream Team rules:
Each player's price will vary based on their most current performance from Round to Round. A rolling average is used to determine how a player's value changes and they must have played at least 3 games in order for their value to increase or decrease.

N Lappin would seem to be the better choice, as long as he isn't injured. Fiora did have a very big game against Melbourne, he has the talent to do it again but maybe wait to see if he does have consistency.

what do you think about fwds that can be rucks, ie would they be a preference? Someone like darcy who may ruck, good person to slot into the fwd line?
do rucks score highly at 3pts for hit outs?
51. April 5th 2007 @ 23:37. Sports Insider Says:
In SuperCoach, the 3 points are for hitouts that “go to advantage”, and they don’t seem to award many of those to the ruckmen. Players like Jolly don’t seem to get a lot of fantasy points, especially in SuperCoach.

Possibly Darcy can only play as a fantasy ruckman in the main AFL fantasy games. Someone like Mooney or Longmuir is eligible at both spots. Often the better move is to put one of the dual position players in a fantasy ruck position.

If you want to play Darcy in the ruck it could be a good move, he didn’t produce many fantasy points in his first game but he will improve after a few games back. He is also quite cheap compared to many other fantasy ruckmen, around half the price compared to Simmonds or White. With Grant out that means Darcy will have a bigger role in the Bulldogs’ forward line too.

Hi, I've made a decent start to the season for fantasy football. I have never been in the top 1000 before in the supercoach competition. I am currently in 37th and as I sense I am a chance of winning a prize this season, the right trades are becoming very crucial for me. How do you expect these players to go in the next month that I have currently got in my team and am thinking about trading: Grant Birchall, Ted Richards, Chad Cornes, Andrew Lovett, Lance Franklin.

And how do you expect these players to go in the next month, these are the ones I am thinking about getting: Scott Lucas, Tahdg Kennelly, Brian Harris, Nathan Ablett, Lindsay Gilbee?
53. April 10th 2007 @ 14:33. Sports Insider Says:
If you are in 37th spot then you should be the one giving advice. Just keep doing what you are doing, maybe use one or two trades this week, but as you are so close to the top you might want to keep plenty of trades for later in the season. Here are some ideas about the players you mentioned:

Grant Birchall: He should continue to be a useful player. For the next month the Hawks should be very competitive and Birchall should be in the action, they also have a game in Tasmania where he plays well. Maybe give him at least the next two games to see how good he will be.
Ted Richards: If Barry Hall does have to miss a few games then Richards could have a much bigger role. There could be better players at his price, but most of them are gambles, maybe Miller of Melbourne or Sam Power would be better over the next month.
Chad Cornes: Is a bit quiet compared to last season, although he has only played 2 games. There might be other players who are doing a bit more, and cost a bit less. You would expect him to have a big game against the Crows. If you wanted to change around your team, then trading Cornes for a cheaper defender, or forward depending on where he is played, would free up extra money to spend on another player.
Andrew Lovett: The Bombers have some other players who can play his position, but so far his playing time is well up and his points are similar to last season. Essendon should have a good run for the next 5 or so games, and Lovett should keep getting his usual number of fantasy points.
Lance Franklin: Could have kicked a couple more goals in round 2, is usually a better kick for goal, so there is the chance for further improvement with his fantasy points. He should be a good player for fantasy points over the next month, and the Kangaroos will struggle to stop him next Sunday.

Scott Lucas: Despite the return of Lloyd and Hird, Lucas has kept playing like he did last season. With Johns out of the team, and Ryder in the back line, it looks like Lucas will continue to be an elite fantasy forward. The Bombers do play the Blues and Saints in their next 2 games and both those teams could have trouble stopping Lucas and Lloyd.
Tahdg Kennelly: Is a good option, as are McPhee, Mattner and Carrazzo who are a similar price.
Brian Harris: Might be too much money compared to what he does. Full backs are not the best for fantasy points. He will start his season against big Gehrig and bigger Richardson, that won’t be easy.
Nathan Ablett: Everyone has to decide if he is for real. If fantasy coaches want him then they should sign him now. Even if his goal production slows down a bit he will still be great value for his current fantasy price, and that price will be increasing too. It seems that Ottens will play in the ruck more so that must be helpful for N Ablett. Geelong have 4 winnable games coming up so N Ablett should score a few goals.
Lindsay Gilbee: He is one of the best kicks in the AFL so he is probably worth his high price, as SuperCoach has points for effectiveness of disposals. Harris returning should help Gilbee too as there have been times when Gilbee had to play on a tall forward and they took him deep in the forward line.

55. April 11th 2007 @ 22:21. Sports Insider Says:
Probably too early to trade away Raines.

McDougall might be someone to trade and there is a chance that the Bulldogs even drop him, they could be bringing in Street. The Bulldogs haven't had a big forward like McDougall in a while so they aren't used to having a big target to kick to.

O'hAilpin is a good player on the field, but some of his efforts aren't counted for fantasy stats. There are probably better players at his price.

N Ablett is definitely an upgrade over McDougall. So that is a good choice.
There is also Alwyn Davey, Jetta, Hawkins, A Edwards, N Krakouer who are other options.

Power and Wilson are smaller players, who usually get more of the ball, and should be good options for the entire season. Solomon and Watt can be inconsistent. Brennan might be the player to sign, he will have a big role for the entire season too. Miller does have the opportunity to star for the next month, but then he will take a lesser role with Neitz, Robertson and Dunn available. Miller is a good option, but Brennan or Power would also help.

Patrick Bowden for Heath Shaw should help your team. Shaw is the much better option right now. P Bowden has been spending a bit of time on the bench for Richmond, his role is changed from last year as Polak has arrived and Gaspar is playing better than expected.

In Coke Dream Team, I'm currently sitting in 6th in the league, and a few players who have underperformed are:
Raines, J Bowden, J Brown and Ottens.
Can you see any of these players coming into some good form soon? Should I trade any?

Then comes my Herald team:
Polak, Hodge, Monfries and Ottens again.
Alot of trading choices if I do decide to trade away Hodge, but I have the knack of trading away players just before they hit form and sky rocket in price. Again, what are your suggestions?

also Goodwin dropping $84k makes him a cheap player, what are your thoughts about him?
62. April 16th 2007 @ 02:41. Sports Insider Says:
Sometimes the real AFL coaches can turn things around for fantasy coaches, and Wallace at Richmond could improve the stats for Raines and both Bowdens. Putting Joel Bowden at full back won’t work so maybe he is now played in a similar way to last season. Maybe give the Richmond players one more week. Brown is very expensive, but against the Kangaroos he might be worth having, so maybe evaluate him after the next round too.

Ottens is a tricky one, as he will be affected by N Ablett, Mooney, Hawkins, Blake and King. If Hawkins is playing next week then maybe Ottens could be traded. In preseason it looked like Ottens would be the main focus of the Geelong attack, now he is behind Mooney and probably Hawkins so Ottens is not as valuable as he might have been.

A couple of seasons ago Hodge didn’t have as much help at Hawthorn, and he was one of the top fantasy players. He might be a bit overpriced now as players like Lewis and Sewell are playing well. Polak should play better for stats next game, Monfries is a player to watch and if his playing time doesn’t go up a bit then he could be traded, give him another couple of weeks.

Goodwin’s stats average took a hit when he was hurt in round 1, so that hurt his fantasy price, Goodwin should be back to his normal numbers next week.

If there is a bargain option to replace Ottens or Hodge then consider that for a fantasy trade this week.

Brown did have the highest average in Dream team last season. So worth the risk, and he should have a big game against the Kangaroos. But compare Brown’s price to some cheaper forwards too, who may be getting similar points to Brown.

Looks like a good team. You will have to decide if Hodge, Ottens and Monfries are value for fantasy money. There might be a cheaper player at their position who is getting similar numbers. With the money saved you could then upgrade the ruck spot if you want a more expensive player than Cloke.
70. April 16th 2007 @ 13:36. Sports Insider Says:
my coke zero dream team. where you think I could improve?

A very good team, maybe the Richmond defenders are a concern. Raines should be playing a lot better than he is, his game time against Collingwood was also a concern. Still too early to give up on him, but if you see a bargain defender that would improve your team then make a move.

Bowden, assuming it is J Bowden, hopefully the idea last game to move him from full back will continue and his fantasy numbers will come back.

Check N Ablett's condition before next round, he should be ready to play. Browne is only a low-cost bench player for you so his injury, 2 or 3 weeks, probably won't affect anything on your team. But if you haven't made any trades yet, you could see if there is another cheap fantasy midfielder to invest in. Browne' s return from injury could happen at the same time as Farmer returns, so Browne may not play as much then.

Winderlich looks like the best out of those two players, his spot as an important member of the Essendon team seems assured. Knights has also had a great start to the year, the Crows have a lot of injuries but mainly to their forwards and ruckmen so Knights also should be a regular for the Crows. They both look like good players for fantasy AFL as they should keep getting solid fantasy points and also see an increase in their value, Winderlich is probably the better of the two.
74. April 17th 2007 @ 22:05. Sports Insider Says:
Do you think it would be worth trading Jetta or Nathan Krakoeur to get Hawkins

If you have not used many trades then using one to bring in Hawkins could be a good move.

Probably think about trading Krakouer as the Power have a few players who could be brought into the team and Krakouer might be one who misses out during the coming weeks. Not only is Motlop only a couple of weeks away with his injury but fantasy star of 2006 Brad Symes is probably recalled by the Power soon.

A bench forward spot for Hawkins should help a fantasy team a lot. You can pick which games he might play better in, and then start him for those, so play him against teams that Geelong should easily defeat but maybe sit him if they are going to play someone like the Eagles or Swans. If Geelong do limit his number of games this year then he just stays on the fantasy bench for those days.

Hi, which player do you reckon will be the better choice out of the following 2: Ryan Hargrave or Beau Waters? I want to get Hargrave as I have no dogs

If you want Hargrave then you might as well take him. He might not have the high return he did last game but he should be as good or better than Waters, and will consistently bring in fantasy points. The Eagles could be getting the Butler back soon, he might take some of the stats off Waters. You could also consider Power, instead of his teammate Hargrave.

If McPharlin is a starting forward, and you want replace him with Hawkins, you have to be aware that Geelong have said they only want to play Hawkins "10 to 12 games" this season. Maybe they will not do that and will now play him every game, but if they did drop him to the VFL it could hurt your fantasy team. Trading a forward from your bench, to add Hawkins, could be a safer option.

You do want to conserve your trades if you can, as there will be times they are needed when injuries suddenly hit, so maybe hold off a week or two to see what Geelong intend to do with Hawkins. King’s expected inclusion, and Geelong are saying that Blake will keep his spot for now too, could change things around at Geelong.

The Dream Team trades should help your team.
The Supercoach ones are interesting, although the Darcy one makes sense from a financial aspect, just that nothing has been heard about Renouf so far although a bargain fantasy ruckman who might play is hard to find. Polak has been playing well even if his stats last game were a bit low, and Pattison won't be there this week. Waters has been good but Sam Butler could return soon. When Butler returns he might take stats off Waters.

Betts has been good this season, he might be spending more time up the ground too. Another Blue, Waite, might be going to the half back which would get him more stats. Or maybe give Monfries one more week and trade him for Gehrig.

Armitage might be there next week. He was one of their better players in the VFL. The Saints need some midfield help, and maybe some extra pace, especially as they are going against the great Power midfield. Give him one more week, to see if he is playing or at least named as an emergency, the Saints may not have named him as an emergency yet.

In the back line for fantasy teams maybe Toovey, Ellis, Joe Anderson or Sam Hunt are options for cheaper players who might be a good investment. Tom Williams has potential too, and in a few weeks James Frawley, who is injured at the moment, could be playing for Melbourne.
In the midfield Josh P Kennedy could surprise people when he gets his chance with Hawthorn, although there isn’t a big need for midfield help there right now. If Geelong lose again then they might want Varcoe back in the team. It wouldn’t be a shock if Melbourne debuted Ricky Petterd soon. Richmond might keep playing Shane Edwards, and they have to give Riewoldt a game soon.
Ben Reid could be an option for Collingwood, he has big fantasy AFL potential, and they have also played Ryan Cook and Shannon Cox. Adam Campbell of Fremantle can play, the Dockers will be getting Johnson and Farmer back but if other players are out then Collard might play a game.
Cheap ruckmen, who get fantasy stats, are hard to find. R Warnock, Renouf and maybe Jessie White are only one injury away from getting a game.

Look to the teams down the bottom of the ladder as they will have several reasons for playing their younger players. Melbourne have to play them as they have so many injured players out. Richmond need to find something new to improve their team, so they are beginning to play players like King. The Kangaroos have already played Thomas, Campbell and Edwards.

Do you think it is worth keeping Marc Murphy because his stats have bee pretty low so far this season? I was thinking about trading him for Kerr or Hasleby, I was leaning towards Hasleby because he is nearly $25000 cheaper than Kerr. Do you think it would be a good trade of am I better off holding onto Murphy?

Stevens is gone for the year, Murphy should be a better player for stats now. His stats, and nearly all his teammates’ stats, were down against the Eagles but they won’t run into a team that dominates them so badly again. Murphy should be back over 20 possessions next week against Brisbane. Murphy had 22 possessions in the NAB Cup Grand Final against Brisbane.

But the chance to acquire Kerr or Hasleby might be worth trading Murphy, or another of your midfielders. Kerr doesn’t show any signs of slowing down his big stats, Hasleby has been very good but it will be difficult next round against the Crows. Looking at their opponents for the coming round, Kerr might be the better player to acquire if you do make a trade. Or wait a round, and maybe Hasleby will be a bit cheaper if the Crows do to the Dockers what they did to the Swans, slowing the game and the stats down..

What's the deal with the midweek game? Is it going to open up again after Anzaz Days clash?
I've got a few injury worries and I'm not too sure where to start, I've got Ottens and Fisher injured and according to Dr Pete Larkins, Hille won't play either. Where do I start? Who'd be a good option? Also your thoughts on N Lappin (SuperCoach)
I've also got Fisher and Lapping in Dreamteam, again your thoughts please.

The round 5 fantasy teams are probably locked in on Wednesday, so no more team changes will be allowed after that.

There seem to be a few Fishers injured, you probably mean S Fisher and he will need to be traded away. Out a few weeks. Carlton’s B Fisher may also be hurt, and will miss a similar amount of time, maybe 3 or 4 weeks. If you want another Saint, L Fisher is a good player. Or have a look at Michael Johnson from Fremantle, he returns from suspension. If it is B Fisher, then Brad Miller or Damon White could be options, even Merrett.

Wait until the Essendon team information is released, to see that Hille is out. Hille’s chest injury may be a thigh or a hamstring, there have been a few different reports on it. Maybe Jolly or McIntosh could be put in for Hille, if Hille is going to miss a few weeks, or maybe go with Ryder.

You could have an emergency ready to play for Ottens, as he could play or may miss another week, there isn’t any news yet. With Ottens at forward in a fantasy team, maybe Gehrig could replace him if a trade is needed. Nick Davis might be back for Sydney this week, Tredrea will be kicking goals soon, Robert Murphy kicked a bunch of goals on Friday, Mark Williams is playing well and Armstrong and Staker have been good for West Coast.

Lappin is a strange story, if you have a better option you might want to play it safe and start them. Or put Lappin in, and at least have an emergency ready.

JORDAN!
Whens Brad ottens back?

There has been no real news about why he was out, and when he is returning. They say a hip injury, and nothing else has been explained, doesn’t seem serious so he might play this round. Geelong should release an updated injured list soon and that might have something new.

Probably worth it to get Kerr, if Cousins does play it wouldn't change the stats of the big stars there like Judd and Kerr but it probably would hurt the numbers of players like Priddis, Armstrong, B Jones and Rosa.

If all your other players are performing and healthy, so you don't need to upgrade any other positions, then trading Murphy for Kerr would bring in more fantasy points for your team. You have to assess if the fantasy points increase will justify the increased cost, but Kerr also has the potential to increase another $40,000 in value of the next couple of weeks too.

Tough choice, maybe Hille missing the game means that Ryder is the one to play.
Darcy has also improved and was great against Richmond.
Ryder has been a bit more consistent this season than Darcy, so that might be another reason for Ryder.

There has been very little news about Ottens, right now it seems he will play. Hopefully you had Alwyn Davey as an emergency, although both he and Campbell having been getting fantasy points so either would be useful. It might also be time to start Davey.
Sinclair is really a midfielder who is a fantasy defender, so a good move there. Sandilands was in good form against Melbourne, and kicked a big goal too, so he should help your team.

With Davey as an emergency, you are nearly hoping that one of your forwards misses the game. It doesn't seem that Ottens will be the star this season that he could have been when judged on his NAB Cup game. With Thomas out for the Kangaroos, that should make Campbell a more important player as they are a slow side and need the pace of Campbell.

97. April 27th 2007 @ 00:46. Sports Insider Says:
It doesn't look like Davey will be slowing down, so starting him might help. He gets goals, and when he tackles it is sometimes holding-the-ball which gets him fantasy points too. Just watch Ottens this week, if he is going to get back to his best it could be against the Kangaroos who might struggle to contain him as well as Hawkins, Mooney and the Abletts.

99. April 27th 2007 @ 13:58. Sports Insider Says:
Might as well go for it and use your trades whenever you think you need to. Having only 2 trades for 10 games could obviously be a problem, but if you get your team right before then and have some luck with injuries then maybe trades won’t be needed later.

Okay so I've done alot of useful fiddling this morning with my SuperCoach team and it now looks like this:

Rucks: Sandilands, Cloke (Griffin, Renouf)
Forwards: Pavlich, Hall, Fevola, Monfries, Davey, Embley, Ottens (N Abblet, M Campbell)

Then thinking about trades, swapping Nathan Abblet for either Jack Riewoldt, Garland or Harbrow, then using the extra cash to:

Wait until the teams are announced, and any suspensions. Goodes will probably miss a week, S Burgoyne is in trouble too.

Trading Nathan Ablett to bring in some money could be a good move, it’s hard to find a good and cheap forward. Riewoldt might play for Richmond, but Hughes had a big game last round. Garland didn’t do a lot and Neitz will be returning. Probably J Riewoldt is the better choice. But have a look at Ben Reid, Clayton Collard and maybe Jake Edwards.

You might want to do the Goodes trade, Judd or West will help your team.

McIntosh has been one of the best ruckmen in the AFL, if they continue to keep Moran out of the side then McIntosh will keep getting stats. But Brown had a huge game last week, after kicking so poorly against the Kangaroos, so he would be a great addition. Malceski has been very impressive, and is having a big year for fantasy points.

If Lappin is a starting centre player then Malceski would be a better option, although S Burgoyne would be even better but he could be suspended. If Lappin is healthy, or you have other centre options to cover for that, then the biggest move for fantasy points would be Jonathan Brown. He has lost a lot of value over the past 3 weeks, which might make him a bargain buy now.

Goodes probably gets suspended for 1 week, so trading him will probably be the thing to do. Ben Hudson has been playing with a lot of energy and he was good for fantasy points last round, so he might be just as good as Everitt. So the trade idea you have makes sense, but it is hard to find a cheap ruck prospect who might help. R Warnock, Renouf and maybe Hampson will play soon. Warnock will just play a few minutes to give Sandilands a rest, but if Sandilands missed a game then Warnock would see a big jump in playing time. Renouf would play a bit if Campbell or Taylor were hurt, and in the VFL Renouf has been useful as a forward and defender. Hampson was a high draft pick and if Carlton lose a few games in a row they will want to give him some games.

That was a surprise that he wasn't suspended, and does change things for fantasy coaches. Maybe Bock for Gilbee, and N Ablett for Collard, might be the way to go. But work through your options and do what you think is best, check the inclusions as well as the emergencies to see if you can find a bargain forward who might get some games.

Goodes could have some big games against the Kangaroos and Saints in the coming weeks. He might get back to his usual stats and his fantasy price could improve.

Cameron Bruce is a great player, but he and his Melbourne teammates might see a slight decrease in stats over the next few weeks with games against the Eagles and Bulldogs. So if you are going to trade Bruce then maybe doing it before those games will help, and of course Judd will get his usual fantasy points. But if you decide to keep Bruce he will still bring in plenty of fantasy points over the season.

The veterans for the Lions have taken on the big role in the midfield this year, so Luke Power as well as Black and Lappin have been getting a lot of stats. The Power for Rischitelli trade idea should help your fantasy AFL team a lot.

Last year it was Jason Roe, a cheap fantasy player who was put into an injury-filled team and got a lot of the ball, and fantasy points, in the back line. Petterd could have the same fantasy year, although it is a bit trickier as he is a fantasy centre.

Brown is someone who was overpriced early in the season, but now is a good time to sign him. His kicking has improved the past couple of weeks although he can get a lot of fantasy points even if he doesn’t kick a huge amount of goals.

While there is some risk with trading for a player who has only 2 career games, Petterd has been very good and to get Brown should make the trades a big success.

115. May 9th 2007 @ 23:19. Sports Insider Says:
The choice is probably between Harris and Newman. While the smaller player is often the best one to go with, Harris has been in great form. Harris has been positioned in the defensive 50 without an opponent on some occasions and he has brought in a lot of fantasy points with marks and kicks.

You have to decide if Harris has overachieved a bit this season, as his stats might go down a little. It might be safer to take Newman, and also consider that Harris and the Bulldogs have Neitz, Rocca and Hall coming up in the next rounds.

The team selections will probably help decide this, although both players should be good.

If the Crows do have to replace Hudson in this week's team due to his injury, and don't bring in another ruck type, that would make Griffin a much better fantasy player.

The Bombers should have Hille and Lovett-Murray back. With Laycock and Bolton possibly being omitted. Ryder should still be effective with Hille back, even if Laycock keeps his spot too.

The Crows may not want to take on Charman and McDonald with only one ruckman, so Ryder is probably the player to start for the fantasy team. But have a look at the team changes tonight.

GEHRIG!

Ebert is great for fantasy points without Tredrea there, while N Ablett is among Mooney, Hawkins and now S Johnson too so they have plenty of other forwards to kick to at Kardinia Park. The choice might be Gehrig or Waite.

Both have been very inconsistent in the early rounds and have dropped in fantasy price. Waite might now be in the back line to stay, and his fantasy points are better there. Gehrig has only played two great games, round 1 and round 6, but he should be more consistent now. He has 10 more games under the roof, and should kick plenty of goals.

Both Waite and Gehrig have a bargain price, so pick either one and they should help. Gehrig has the greater potential to have a big fantasy round so that might make him a better choice.

I have spent hours trying to work out the perfect trades for my team. To get Chris Judd into my team, it involves a trade I need to buy Justin Koschitzke and I have come down to the conclusion it is either Andrew Walker or Ryan Hargrave who needs to leave my supercoach team. I cannot decide which one as Walker has been consistent with scores of 70-80 and one game over 100, Hargrave is $20,000 dearer and has also one game over 100 and has put in high scores close to 100 but had a shocker 2 weeks ago with just 46. Can you help me out at all as this trade may make or break my chances of winning the supercoach competition in 2007? Thanks.
126. May 11th 2007 @ 08:08. Sports Insider Says:
You could possibly separate them by looking at what their values could do from now. Hargrave has been a better player than last year and has increased his value so far this season. You can cash him in now as his value may not get any higher, and there is the chance it could go down a bit. He has given you an extra $45,000 so that helped. Walker’s value hasn’t changed too much, it probably won’t go down.

Last season Walker finished with a much higher value than Hargrave, that is something to look at as that gives an indication of what they can do over an entire season.

The Bulldogs are the better, and healthier team, so they can afford to play more players and share the load. Although Hargrave will often play every minute. Carlton don’t have a lot of players to bring in and will need to play Walker a lot, so that might be something to consider.

Hargrave gives away more free kicks than he receives, while Walker has more tackles and kicks more goals than Hargrave. So Walker might be the player to keep, as both players will contribute similar points it is hard to decide, but trading Hargrave now will give you some more money to use. Other defenders around the same price are Newman and L Fisher, Newman has been very good this season.

McLeod might be the player to take, very close to Goddard in price and was averaging as many points too. McLeod takes on the Tigers, so Adelaide's players should have a big game for stats.

If you want to free up some money then Adcock might be the player to sign. He is the biggest bargain among the top 20 fantasy defenders.

If you want to swap him for another Saint. then either of the Fishers or Gram is worth signing. Sam Fisher had a big game for fantasy points last round. S Fisher could be even better when Hudghton and Maguire return as he will go back to the role he had last season with more running and possessions.

The Eagles say Embley will miss another month. Dean Cox can still get a lot of fantasy points even with splitting the ruck minutes down the middle with Seaby. So maybe Embley should go, but Dean Cox probably should stay. For this week it might help to have an emergency ruckman if the Eagles decide to give him another week off.

You probably want to give him this week, against Richmond, and then assess him after that. The Crows also have four very winnable games, when they should kick a big score, coming up after the Richmond game.

Bock started great, then Stevens got going for a few games, then Perrie, so the Adelaide forwards are taking it in turns for kicking goals. Maybe Bock gets going again. But if he can’t kick multiple goals against Richmond it might be time to trade him.

Davey and Ryder.

N Ablett won't have Hawkins there this week, but S Johnson will play again. With Ottens and Mooney there too it can be a bit crowded, although N Ablett will always get a bit of the ball with Gary kicking it to him. Lloyd's return might help Davey, it seems that Davey always gets in the right spot to crumb from a Lloyd marking attempt. With a goal or two, some tackles, and maybe a run in the middle for some extra possessions, Davey might produce more fantasy points.

The Ryder and Hudson choice is also difficult. Essendon have to decide who gets big Brown, with Fletcher or Michael, and then there may only be Patfull as a tall forward for Brisbane, maybe Ryder plays on him. But Ryder will also get some minutes as the backup ruckman and should again be very good for fantasy points. Hudson is always solid, and might have an increased output against Richmond, but Ryder might be the player to use instead of him.

That all makes sense, as Goodwin is on the way up for fantasy value and stats while Kerr might have peaked and is going to go down a bit. Goodwin was top 10 in the AFL for kicks, handballs and total disposals last season, and after having an injury early this season he is getting back to those numbers. Goodwin is a little bit cheaper too, at the moment.

This round it is Goodwin versus Richmond, and while Kerr does take on Melbourne who are also winless it is a Melbourne team that has Brock back and have shown that they can stop, or slow down, players like S Burgoyne and West.

With a good number of trades stockpiled, there is also an opportunity to look at a player to acquire who will go up in price. Someone like Jesse Smith, Petterd, Ross Young or maybe Lindsay Thomas.

Someone like J Smith, or Gwilt, could be a bargain. So compare their fantasy points average and price to the more expensive options. If Clement is back in the team this round for Collingwood he would be a solid player to sign.

Those two players are great to sign. Maybe take the cheaper of the two, which could be Johnson. But wait until Thursday to see if Chapman is back. Also have a look at J Brown, N Riewoldt and maybe B Hall.

Johnson could be the best option for your team. He will never have a bad fantasy points game because if he isn’t marking and kicking goals he will go into the middle and get some possessions.

Not much help is needed then as your forward line is very powerful. Going with Johnson is the right move, and although Riewoldt was mentioned as an option it might be best to not really consider him as he was one of many Saints who visited the doctor yesterday. Although the Saints have said that Riewoldt is fit to play.

Maybe you have this forward too, but Gary Ablett would be another Cat to look at for a fantasy forward spot.

Koschitzke for Kenelly
Davey for B Johnson
Davey for Chapman

Maybe none of the trades need to be made, as Koschitzke will be a good player as the Saints will play better than they did last week. He should have plenty of marks on the big ground there. Davey, if it’s Alwyn, should have plenty of the ball as they take on Richmond, and he will also get his tackles.

Kennelly was great last week, he will be chasing Bulldogs on the weekend, so he might not have the ball as much as he did last week. Chapman had a couple of great games before he got injured, there is some risk playing him for his first game back, but as Kennelly showed sometimes it is worth it as they have a big game on their return.

If a trade is to occur then Brad Johnson is probably the player to acquire. Goals and possessions are what he does, so he has an advantage over some forwards who only kick goals and other fantasy players who only get possessions.

I am playing the league leaders in my private league in DT this week, so every point counts... Should i put Judd or B Johnson as captain do you think?

Looking at the games last season when those players went up against the teams, it didn’t help find the better player. Johnson had 5 goals and 20 possessions against Sydney and Judd had 33 possessions and 1 goal versus Hawthorn.

Brad Johnson also played against Sydney during the preseason, he didn’t play the whole game as it was just a practice match and the Bulldogs had it under control, he kicked a couple of goals.

With no Cousins or Kerr, Judd will try to lift his game even more and Hawthorn will do everything to stop him. Sewell, Crawford, Hodge, they could rotate a bunch of players on him during the game. Johnson will probably be against a mobile defender, C Bolton or Barry, and they have the ability to cause him some trouble.

Probably best to go with Judd as nobody has been able to stop him this season, but Johnson could be just as good this round.

154. May 25th 2007 @ 05:51. Sports Insider Says:
Malceski is a player to keep. He should be great for fantasy points for the rest of the season.

Deciding what to do with Gram is difficult, and the Saints aren’t giving much of an idea about his hamstring injury or a return date. If you have a solid defender on the bench, who is playing for his AFL club this round, then it should be a good move to just wait for Gram to come back next round. Goddard playing doesn’t really affect his stats, maybe the reason why his stats are a bit below last year’s numbers was that he was injured, so with a couple of weeks off he should be fresh and will bring in points at the rate he did last season, which means a 10% increase of his stats average for 2007.

157. May 30th 2007 @ 13:53. Sports Insider Says:
That might be a good idea. When he first got injured the news was supposed to be 8 weeks out, then they thought only 2, and he then surprised everyone with a big game against the Bombers. So his fantasy outlook changed a lot in a week.

Richmond do have two tricky games coming up, against Brisbane under the roof and then away to Fremantle. From round 12 they have a good run of games that they can win and Richardson can kick a lot of goals.

There are a few reasons why it is the time to buy him. His price could start going up a bit now, so with the “buy low” strategy now is the time to sign him. Brisbane didn’t do too well against the Essendon forwards, Richardson should be too mobile for Merrett to contain too.

The young players shouldn’t affect his stats in a negative way, Richardson can get his fantasy points if he stays in the forward 50 or if he goes running around. When or if Brown returns, he probably plays most of the time as a forward pocket, having another veteran goal-kicker in the forward line could help Richardson.

The price is certainly right for Richardson, so now could be the time to sign him up.

It depends on what fantasy games you look at. For the Dream Team game, Judd has maintained the same approximate price all season, and is somewhere around the 3rd to 10th best fantasy player. Bartel and Lockyer are currently the top 2 there.

In SuperCoach, Judd was a little bit overpriced at the start of the season. He has lost a small amount of value and is the second best fantasy player in that competition, after Bartel.

The best thing about Judd is that he is worth the high price because he doesn't have bad games. So for fantasy teams chasing the weekly prize he always helps them stay in contention for that.

It was worth it to buy Judd at the start of the year and if people can free up some money it still makes sense to sign him for a fantasy AFL team.

Kennelly, Gram and Johncock have all missed games, with Johncock playing last week and losing some of his fantasy value too. Kennelly might be the pick, but sometimes it is a worry when a player is reported to be out with a “mystery illness”. Polak, Newman and Raines like to share the ball among themselves, any of them could help.

For a bit of value you could consider Gwilt, his stats have not been far off the above players’ numbers. Dempster might be a player next year for fantasy teams, he has potential but isn’t there yet. Michael Johnson is at a similar price to Kennelly and the other defenders.

Probably go with Kennelly, try to check what they are saying about his illness, but there are plenty of other options too consider too. Johncock might have been the best out of these players last season, and he is now $36,500 cheaper. Gram was a good performer last season too, and is also a bit cheaper than he was earlier in the year.

If you have an emergency who is named in his AFL team this round then take Kennelly, just so that situation is covered. But as Johncock did play last week, and he will be better after the run, he could be the safer option.

N Brown seems to be a few weeks away and it is probably better to avoid him for fantasy teams until he has a few AFL games and proves that he will get plenty of stats.

The McLeod for D Fletcher deal looks like a solid move, Fletcher might be around 10% more in cost but will also bring a fantasy points increase of a similar percentage.

McLeod is a great player so if you keep him he will help your team a lot, but if you don’t need to use a trade and your money at another fantasy position then adding Fletcher should bring some improvement to your team. The best move, if the team finances allow it, would be to keep McLeod and trade another player for Fletcher.

what do you think about J Selwood? after he was left out last week, is he going to have a hard time getting back into the team with Geelong on fire as they are at the moment? is it time to trade him?
169. June 6th 2007 @ 01:06. Sports Insider Says:
He should be back in the Geelong team soon although injuries could decide not only if he plays but also how much playing time he receives.

For fantasy teams, it might be helpful to trade him now, but that could depend on how many trades have been used. If a fantasy team has Selwood on their bench and plenty of trades to use, then moving J Selwood for someone like Armitage, S Edwards or maybe Boak would free up some additional money, this could then be used to upgrade a starter on the fantasy team for a fantasy superstar.

If J Selwood was used as a starter then it is best to trade him, and as his price has steadily climbed a useful player should be available at a similar price.

That must be H Shaw, and he is certainly more affordable after being injured early in the last game.

Last week was his 5th consecutive week in a row of declining Dream Team points. In a week or so his price could have levelled out and he will be a bargain buy, compared to his stats potential.

But to catch the teams ahead in the standings, if they also have Shaw, adding him will mean you get the same points from that player as the other teams do. Kennelly is at a similar price, and is owned by half the number of teams that Shaw is. Gram and M Johnson might have been options, but they went up in price last week.

Trading Bock makes sense, and you might as well use your trades to go for the win. In a week or two, there might be a better option than Shaw to trade for.

Scott Lucas might be an option. Hall was very bad last week, which makes him affordable this week. They are both volatile options, but when they are on they are great.

O’Keefe is a solid player, and like the other smaller forwards like G Ablett and P Chapman, R O’Keefe gets fantasy points with possessions as well as goals. He might be a more consistent player than Lucas or Hall.

Richardson was over 100 last week, as was Rocca. Fevola could be a similar fantasy forward option, feast or famine types who can kick a lot of goals one week and go missing for some occasional games.

O’Keefe and Lucas might be the ones to choose from, and O’Keefe isn’t owned by as many fantasy coaches as Lucas is.

For the other question, any of the great forwards would help a fantasy team. Riewoldt might be playing the best right now, and he is beginning to increase in price. Both B Johnson and J Brown have slipped in value and are at a bargain price, the potential for Brown might make him the better option over Johnson.

Moving Bock could be the right move if it frees up some money, someone like Tom Williams could take his spot on the bench, if Bock is a defender. Then adding a big star with the extra money should really improve your team.

There are some tricky situations there, including deciding between Rodan and King. They are both unlikely fantasy stars and have both risen in price, so they are tradeable assets. Rodan might be the one to keep, as he can also kick goals.

Upgrading Davey makes sense. Hall was much better last season for fantasy points, things should eventually turn around for him. But there may be other forwards to consider. The AFL ruckmen in fantasy have all been very inconsistent, so maybe better to stay with Sandilands to conserve trades. But watch to see if they keep playing Warnock with him. Jesse Smith should be a good player for the rest of the season and worth keeping too. Koschitzke probably should stay around for a few more weeks, if Gehrig misses a game or two then that might help Koschitzke's stats and he has been useful in the ruck for the Saints with fantasy points recently.

Trading away Hawkins might give you more money to work with.

It seems the Cats won't give Hawkins significant playing time unless Mooney or Ottens are injured, while Jetta could play a bit more for his club as the Bombers were very good early when Jetta was using his speed.

Boak is playing for Port Adelaide this week so that is another young smaller player, which eventually could squeeze out Gray. Westhoff is a mobile player, at his size, so he might keep his spot even if Tredrea hits form and with White there too.

The teams for Sunday should be officially announced soon, but right now Westhoff is in and Gray is on the possible bench. So there are a couple of reasons to choose Westhoff, although it isn't the time to start him with Ryder and Fletcher playing against him.

If Hall can’t kick a lot of goals against Collingwood, who could be missing two or three of their best defenders, then trading Hall might be the thing to do. With plenty of money available to use, just get whoever is the best available. The Essendon tall forwards, Lloyd and Lucas, are very affordable while Geelong’s small forwards, G Ablett and Chapman, will always provide a lot of fantasy points.

Including the upcoming round 12 game against the Magpies, three of the next four games for the Swans will be played in Sydney. Hall might be able to hit form with home ground advantage, which includes a game at the SCG against Carlton in round 15.

But unless he kicks a few goals and shows that things have turned around when he plays Collingwood it might be best to trade him. The amount of trades you have to use, and if other positions need to be upgraded, will also decide if Hall should be traded.

Koschitzke and Judd are on half the fantasy teams so plenty of other fantasy coaches will have your decision to make too. It does give you a chance to find a star or two that other teams don't have.

Some places, including the AFL site, say Koschitzke is a week while the Herald Sun says 2 to 3 and others say 4 weeks, but Coach Lyon is not talking at the moment. There has to be more information available on Friday before fantasy games are locked.

Walker was doing well, before he got hurt he had 4 rounds of increasing points and price. But like Judd and Koschitzke, there is some mystery regarding his injury and how much he might miss.

Johncock is a bargain right now and might be a better choice than M Johnson, when comparing their current prices and also their fantasy points last season.

Frawley is a good player to have available to use on your fantasy team, and if Bizzell wasn't getting so many games then Frawley would have been much better for fantasy points. For this round, against Essendon, Frawley may not have a big role but that could change depending on the announced lineups tomorrow. But because they lost to Richmond and the coach doesn't have to bother with trying for wins to save his job, maybe on Thursday the Demons decide it is youth all the way now and Holland and Bizzell make way for younger players to grow.

All your trade options make sense so on Friday it is probably best to go with your ideas. Thursday night when the teams are announced, there will probably be some more news about the injured players and that will be included in the AFL Round 13 Teams and Fantasy News post.

With all the injury troubles I'm having at the moment (Hille, Koschitzke, Hall) would it be a bad idea to jump on Nathan Brown or Tredrea?

Not the two safest players to turn to when having "injury troubles" but they were both great last round. Tredrea is cheaper, although they are both at low prices. Maybe Brown might provide more stats, and his injury if it is fixed won't be a problem while Tredrea will always have some knee soreness.

Probably the logical conclusion there, just wanted to here it from someone else. Thanks for your help anyway.
I've decided to trade out Hille for White and Koschitzke for Johncock.

I think I should trade Barry Hall, I have 9 trades left and I am winning my league in Coke Dream Team. Who should I trade Hall for? I was looking at N. Brown (Rich) or G. Ablett (Geel) or any other recommendations. I have $81,800 in the bank so I was leaning towards N. Brown because I can do a straight trade, whereas with Ablett I need to use 2 trades to accumulate the money (ie. I would trade one of my 5 rookie benched players that have increased value).

9 trades is a useful amount for the rest of the season, so picking up a rookie and G Ablett might be worth it. Clarke at Collingwood has good fantasy potential at the rookie price, and when this round's teams are announced there could be a couple more rookies being debuted. Chad Cornes is another player at a price similar to G Ablett.

N Brown was very good last week, Fraser Gehrig should be back and without Koschitzke he becomes more important for the Saints and is nearly the exact price as Hall. Fevola might be an option too. LLoyd has come down in price recently too. Another Sydney forward to consider to replace Hall is R O'Keefe.

There are plenty of options available, G Ablett might be the best to go with.

Hi, I am not going very good in the coke zero afl dream team this year. As I have no trades left and have no hope at all left in this team at winning me a prize this year, would I be eligible to win a prize if I remove this entry from the comp and start up a new team for the remainder of the season?

this is a technical question - how are price raises etc calculated for players? I know there is an average across the previous 3 games, but how exactly is that worked out - that is, given the value of a player, how much of a dollar change occurs etc. thanks!

You could try another competition, the AFLPA has a game.

Another AFL game

For a better answer you could try contacting the fantasy games sites directly.

One thing to do is compare players who have similar points per game averages. As you can see what value the prices seem to level out at, so you can estimate the increase or decrease that could affect players with a similar fantasy points average.

I am playing Dream team and only have 2 trades left - if judd is out for the season, and I am forced to trade him, who is the best option at or below his price do you think? West? Goodwin? Scotland? or should i go say simon black and have some banked money for a possible future trade on an injured player?

If they do announce that Judd is out, for the rest of the regular season, then the first thing to do would be to look at the other midfielders for the Eagles. Kerr would be a good choice. Stenglein and Braun would be other options.

A healthy Scott West is probably a better choice ahead of Goodwin, Scotland and S Black. Black does make sense, for freeing up some extra money. Stanton would provide a bit of extra money for your last trade too, as would Daniel Harris who had a big game on the weekend and is capable of doing it again.

It might be a good idea to avoid veterans on teams that won't make the finals. Like the Kangaroos last year when they shut down players like Grant and Simpson, there is a chance that teams like Carlton, Richmond and Brisbane might want to rest some of their older players.

About Judd, and his possible injury, he will probably keep playing as the Eagles need him right now.

thanks - already have kerr, agree that would probably be the best choice otherwise. hopefully juddy can recover for DT finals!

These players could be affected by the injuries and form of other players. If Tredrea misses an occasional game, to stay fresh for the finals, then Lade may be pushed forward more and increase his fantasy points with a few extra goals. Geelong might want to see want King can do, and as they don’t want to drop Blake it would cut into Ottens’ time in the ruck.

Geelong are nearly guaranteed top spot, so they can afford to try a few new things and rest some players so that could mean Ottens doesn’t do as much for fantasy points. The Power need to keep winning to get second spot, so they will want Lade out there as much as possible.

While that logic favours Lade, Ottens and Geelong are hosting the Tigers this round. He might get a lot of fantasy points in that game.

Lade might be the player to get, mainly because his team needs to finish off the season with their best team out there to get into the top 2. As Geelong already have top spot under control it means they could experiment a bit with Hawkins or King, and Ottens might not be asked to do as much. There might also be other ruckmen to look at, Josh Fraser should have a lot of fantasy points as Collingwood play the three teams down the bottom of the ladder and McIntosh is also playing very well at the moment.

Will Lance Buddy Franklen win Coleman Medal

He will certainly come close. He is getting plenty of scoring shots, so with a small increase in his accuracy that will provide some more goals. He has also missed a few games, so when compared to other players his goals per game average is a bit higher too.

Right now second spot to Brown of Brisbane looks like the likely result. But if Brown has a quiet game or two, or if Lance Franklin produces a 10-goal game in the final month of the regular season, then it could be Franklin who gets the Coleman Medal.

Here are some player rankings. If this is a keeper league where a player is drafted to a specific team, grab the better players at each end, the forwards and defenders, as there are fewer stars than for the midfield position.

Fantasy players from the 2007 AFL Draft.

Matthew Kreuzer
Cyril Rioli
Chris Masten
Trent Cotchin
Cale Morton
Rhys Palmer
Jack Grimes
Addam Maric
Levi Greenwood
Brad Ebert
David Myers
Scott Selwood
Pat Veszpremi
Tom Collier

Hopefully this is what you need. Some of the better first-year players for fantasy teams in 2008. The teams that pick them will have a big impact on their stats, so it is hard to rank them at the moment. Masten might get the most possessions. Some players like Grimes, Ebert and Greenwood are a lot more ready for the AFL than other potential picks. Kreuzer will be someone to pick, and maybe another big like McEvoy too, but it is usually the smaller players that help fantasy teams early in their careers.
