M1 Abrams Match Preview: The Match Winners

One team has Cameron Bruce, Russell Robertson and Brad Green while the other one has Cain Ackland. Melbourne will be big favourites.

In a contest between two struggling teams, a brilliant game by a player or two is enough to get the win. Here are the players that could win the game for their club, which might mean incurring the wrath of plenty of their supporters.

Melbourne's stars:
Bruce: If he is in the middle and up forward then the Demons will win, if Bruce is getting 30 possessions in the back line then the Demons are playing for the pick.
Green: Just like Bruce, but a tad smaller.

McDonald: May not take his place due to injury, if he does play then he will dominate the middle.
Robertson: The Demons could be down a couple of goals in the last quarter, and then a minute of brilliance from Robertson could see Melbourne hit the lead, usually that would be greeted by applause from the Melbourne fans.
White: One of the best ruckmen in the AFL, he should have an easy game.
McLean: Even if McDonald does miss the game, the Demons can still win more of the ball in the centre with players like McLean.

Carlton's stars:
Carrazzo: He gets a lot of the ball, and could cost them a draft pick if he gets the ball in a more damaging part of the ground.
Whitnall: He may not play, and might even be playing for Melbourne next season, but he could win this game for Carlton with his passing skills.
Scotland: Is very effective at marking opposition kicks around half back, he could limit the supply to the Melbourne forwards, although he is also under an injury cloud.
Bentick: With his tackling and hardness, he is Carlton's best chance of matching some of the stronger Melbourne bodies in the middle.

Waite: Probably the player who is their best chance at winning the game, especially if he kicks a bunch of goals up forward.
Simpson: Can get into space, bounce the ball with his right hand and kick a goal on his left foot. If he does that for three or more goals then Carlton could start the draft at pick 3.

The team that suddenly discovers a plethora of injuries to the above players might be the big loser on the day, and the winner on draft day. So expect a few cases of Plantar Fasciitis, Equine Influenza and some of the abbreviated injuries like OP, DUI and TB to be discovered before the game starts.
