Inside The Coleman Race

It doesn't look like the fans will be running onto the ground to celebrate 100 goals from a forward this season. There is still plenty of excitement as there are a lot of contenders for the Coleman Medal.

Matthew Pavlich, 41 goals.
Fremantle isn't having the best year but Pavlich is leading the league in goals.

Scott Lucas, 39
Had a minor slump after starring in the early rounds, is back scoring goals again and is a big chance to lead the league.

Lance Franklin, 39
Took on a bigger role when Williams went out.

Brad Johnson, 39
After round 1 it looked like the Coleman was his. He is still in contention as nobody else at the Bulldogs has shown they can kick a lot of goals.

Brendan Fevola, 39
His production has dropped away over the last month.

Matthew Lloyd, 35
Still in the race for the most goals, for the AFL and for his club.

Matthew Richardson, 32
Not a bad result for a player with injury problems and umpire problems.

Cameron Mooney, 32
Mooney has been the best of the Cats' forwards this season.

Jonathan Brown, 30
Probably one of the preseason favourites for the most goals, he has been stopped by a few teams who have used extra defenders against him with Bradshaw out of the team.

Scott Welsh, 29
The Crows are not kicking a lot of goals so Welsh isn't someone expected in the top 10 here.

Tim Boyle,28
A big surprise on this list, injury will keep him out for a few games.

Fraser Gehrig, 27
Don't rule him out for the medal, he can kick a lot of goals in a game and he will also be under the roof a lot during winter.

Brett Ebert, 26
He kept the team going when Tredrea was out and is still kicking goals now that the Power have added more options up forward.

Anthony Rocca, 25
He was kicking accurately once again before he was suspended, he should be aiming to finish the season with over 50 goals.

Shannon Grant 25
He has kicked 25 goals but the point in the opening round is his scoring shot that is talked about the most.

Corey Jones, 25
A consistent medium-sized forward that other teams don't pay enough attention to.

Chris Tarrant, 24
A few accuracy problems, and other things, so he will need to have a big finish to the year to justify the trade.

Quinten Lynch, 24
Possibly it is part of the Eagles' game-plan, Lynch has been playing up the ground a lot more this season.

Barry Hall, 24
He has been kicking inaccurately and dropping marks which has resulted in a much lower total than expected.

Michael O'Loughlin, 23
Might need to be played in a forward pocket now as he is slowing down.

Brad Fisher, 22
The quiet player on this list, he plays the role of a third tall forward and gets his couple of goals per game.

Nathan Bock, 21
This is his first season as a full-time AFL forward, some of his games have been dominating but he has been stopped in others, he needs to be more consistent.

Nathan Ablett, 21
A race to watch will be to see which Ablett records the most goals this season.

Nick Riewoldt, 21
Started the season a bit late and spends a lot of time away from goals on long leads.

Kayne Pettifer, 21
One of the more precise kicks for goal among the Richmond forwards.

Des Headland, 20
He gets his goals in bunches.

Russell Robertson, 20
He is having a very good season, except for his injury in the early rounds.

Ashley McGrath, 20
Kicked a few goals in the early rounds when Brisbane were on a roll.

Adam Cooney, 20
He kicks some of his goals from runs through the middle of the ground, a play that often lifts his team.

Jarrad Waite, 20
The plan was to have him at centre half back but he has been up the other end a lot more.

Shaun Higgins, 19
Considering how the Bulldogs use him, often off the bench, he has scored plenty of goals so far.

Leon Davis, 19
He is getting into the middle more but is still producing goals.

Steve Johnson, 19
Would be higher up on the list if he was available for the first month of the year.

Brent Harvey, 19
Among the highest for total possessions for players on this list.

David Neitz, 18
His season could be over as Melbourne might shut him down so he is in perfect health for next season.

Stephen Milne, 18
He might think he is still in the running for the Coleman Medal, that could explain his wild shots at goal when a pass to one of their big forwards is a much better option.

Gary Ablett, 17
Kicks a few goals and sets up his teammates for a lot more.

Cameron Ling, 17
Some of his goals have occurred due to following his opponent to a stoppage in Geelong's forward line, Ling is very good in front of goals and provides an edge for his team as a tagger/goal scorer.

David Rodan, 17
The biggest bargain on this list. Port Adelaide have gotten a lot this season from the last pick in the draft.

Travis Cloke, 17
Not the most accurate kick, but he marks the ball a lot and can kick a long way.

Peter Bell, 16
One of the Dockers' best this season, he gets the ball a lot as well as helping on the scoreboard.

Jarryd Roughead, 16
Should finish the season off with a lot more goals as he has cemented his spot and Boyle is out for a while.

They teamed him with Robbins again and it worked. Johnson is now the leading goalkicker in the AFL after round 14. But a lot of much bigger forwards like Pavlich, Lucas and Franklin are right behind him. If he plays 4 finals, and has a couple more big games for goals during the season, then he could get to 100.
