How's My Trade Value: Robert Warnock
Player: Robert Warnock
Why their team should trade them:
They may not have a choice, and will be faced with the same problem they had when Jeff White wanted out. Once again, Melbourne need a ruckman and Fremantle have a Victorian ruckman who could be available, Melbourne also are likely to have the top pick in the preseason draft, so the Dockers may have to take what they can get or lose Warnock for nothing.
Which team would be a good fit:
Jeff White is getting close to the end of his career, Robert Warnock's brother plays for Melbourne, with Neitz retiring and other players leaving there is plenty of salary cap room, all the pieces seem to fit.
Similar trade in the past:
Cameron Wood was at a similar point in his career when he went from Brisbane to Collingwood, he was worth a late first round pick.
Possible trade scenarios:
To Fremantle: Demons' second round pick and Jace Bode
To Melbourne: Robert Warnock and Ryan Murphy
To Fremantle: Tigers' second round pick and Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
To Richmond: Robert Warnock
To Fremantle: Saints first round pick and Leigh Fisher
To St Kilda: Robert Warnock and Ryan Murphy

There would be a lot better ruckman with pick eight or nine than warnock
Even if they get Warnock, Melbourne could also take Naitanui. He could be used like Goodes is. They also need to kick goals, so Watts makes sense too.
A couple more wins by Melbourne, and that is possible, and they would be at pick 3. With the 2 WA teams picking ahead of them, maybe Watts would be there for the Demons at pick 3.
Rememberng warnock and murphy were both 1st and 2nd round picks respetivly...
both exceptional talents

When Mitch Morton left the Eagles, they had to take what they were offered, Fremantle could be in a similar situation as Warnock is uncontracted and could just leave.
It doesn't matter where a team drafts them, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls and Beau Dowler were both top 10 picks and if they were traded they would not be worth a similar draft pick.
Robert Warnock should be worth a higher pick than where he was first drafted, while Murphy won't be traded for a pick close to where the Dockers took him.
Both of those players do have great talent, but they have to leave Fremantle if they want a chance to achieve it.
Fremantle have to hope that R Warnock doesn't want to go to Melbourne. Then if two or three teams want Warnock it might drive up his price. If Carlton, Richmond and St Kilda all become places that Warnock wants to go to, then the Dockers could sit back and wait for the best offer.
It is more likely that Melbourne do present Warnock with a big contract offer, and they say they will take him at pick 1 of the preseason draft. If that happens, Fremantle won't have any negotiating power and if a trade is offered they will have to accept lower than market value.
There is still a few months to go before the trade talk starts, but with White sent to the VFL it does look like Melbourne are planning on getting a new ruckman for 2009, and Warnock could be who they want.
