Counting Down To Melbourne's First Win
Melbourne had a strange offseason, they didn't really do anything. They could have added a couple of veterans for depth if they thought they were a contender, if they came to the conclusion that it was time for a rebuild then they could have moved some players for draft picks, but nothing happened. Right now, the extra veterans they could have traded for would have been very useful, as they need someone to fill the spots that Neitz, Robertson and McLean had.
It is not going to be easy for Melbourne over the next month or two. They are going to struggle for height in the forward line, players like Dunn and Paul Johnson will be good players but right now they are inexperienced at AFL level. Those two, and Brad Miller, can mark the ball but are not going to kick the goals that Neitz would have.
The Demons are going to have to find goals somewhere as they will be taking on Pavlich, Hall, Tredrea, Brad Johnson and Lynch in the next rounds. Fremantle are also in disarray at the moment, so if a bit of luck goes the Demons' way they could upset the Dockers. Away games against the Swans and Eagles are something the undermanned Demons would not be looking forward to.
