Cheap AFL Fantasy Defenders
Fantasy coaches who want to improve their team will need to find extra money to upgrade a player or two. Selling a bench player for a very cheap option can often raise enough money to then trade in a starting player for a much better option. Players like J Selwood and L Thomas have at least doubled their opening price, selling them and replacing them on the bench with a player at a low price could mean there is enough money to turn someone like Solomon into Carrazzo in the fantasy back line.
Teams with injuries and down the bottom of the ladder will always provide more fantasy bargains. They have a lot more reasons to play their younger players than a contending team. Melbourne, Brisbane and Carlton might provide a fantasy defender who is currently at the lowest price and will have a very productive second half of the season.
The other positions will be looked at in the coming days. You can post about a very cheap player that was missed in the comments box below, or maybe you would be better off signing them yourself and not letting other fantasy coaches know.
If someone like Boyle or Toovey is on the fantasy bench and extra money is needed, then they could be traded for one of these low-priced fantasy defenders.
James Frawley: His team is out of finals contention, and he is already getting a game, so a good option for a fantasy defender at a low price.
Albert Proud: He is getting close to a game, as he was named as an emergency. The Lions started well but have fallen off and their season could be finished with a few more losses. Proud would be expected to play plenty of games during the second half of the season.
Tom Williams: He played one bad game for fantasy stats early in the season, and one great game recently, so his price is about to go up.
Will Thursfield: They are down the bottom and got rid of Gaspar so Thursfield will continue to play. His stats have not been very good though.
Joe Anderson: Carlton have moved a round a lot of the defensive structure, Anderson has played a few games and when he is healthy there should be a spot for him to play a few more.
Danny Stanley: He played his first game on the weekend, and he might play a few more.
Garrick Ibbotson: A defender in fantasy games, he spent time in the middle and also kicked a goal in his first game for Fremantle.
Simon Prestigiacomo: He is among the cheap players. For a fantasy team that wants to play it safe and have a fantasy emergency who is guaranteed to play for their AFL side then Prestigiacomo is a player to sign, when he is fit.
Matt Riggio: He played a couple of early games. The Kangaroos might need to go deeper into their list if more injuries hit and Riggio could get a recall.
Mitchell Thorp: He should make his debut soon. If he does play for Hawthorn then it might be a role up forward. Last season, Hawthorn provided a few more fantasy bargains than this year as they played more young players because they were out of finals contention in 2006.
Eric MacKenzie: Probably not the best team to look at for a fantasy bargain right now, although the Eagles could add another tall defender and MacKenzie is as much of a chance as Graham is to get the spot.
Adam Hartlett: They have moved some of the ri better defenders into new spots up the ground, leaving Thornton and Saddington as their tall defenders. Carlton have already given Hartlett a game and he could play a few more.
Matt Tyler: Brisbane provided some low-cost fantasy stars last season when their season was unofficially over, it could happen again this year.
Gavin Urquhart: The Kangaroos covered for the loss of Gibson but if they lose another defender then maybe Urquhart gets a run.
Andrejs Everitt: Tom Williams could have taken the spot that was available in their back line, so Everitt might not be the best Bulldog to invest in.
Matthew Ferguson: There are plenty of injuries at the Saints so he might get a game.
Clinton Benjamin: Carlton haven't gone with the full youth movement yet, but a couple more losses and players like Benjamin should get their chance.
Matthew Warnock: Melbourne have gone with some veteran defenders as they have won a couple of games, but when they lose again it could be time for younger options like Warnock.
Matthew Spencer: The Cats would need to lose a couple of tall players to injury before Spencer got a look.
