Carlton Tell Kreuzer He Isn’t Good Enough

Probably not the ideal welcome from a club to their top overall pick, Carlton have said that if Nicholas Naitanui was available they would have taken him instead of Kreuzer.

From the Herald Sun: Kreuzer picked in Nick of time

Blues recruiting manager Wayne Hughes did not hesitate when asked whom he would have taken as the first pick in the national draft if the ruckman of Fijian descent had been available.

"Naitanui," he said yesterday.

Naitanui, along with Daniel Rich from Western Australia, will be one of the contenders to be the first pick in the 2008 AFL draft.

Only the Spues, a club well known for it's Liberal leanings, could catch the loser's election gaffe wave on the way down by making such a stupid comment. An honorary Chaser "Mal" to Wayne Hughes. Congratulations!

Perhaps we should not be looking this gift horse in the mouth though? Clearly from all the flipping hype with priority pick after priority pick showing their single-digit Spues guernseys in the papers, the Spues are sending us not one (the Hughes Naitanui gaffe) but two clues where their future lies for '08: A tanking four-peat!

Just wait for Judd's groin to start playing up all year. Steven's neck will incur another stress fracture and the ongoing idiot show from Fevlova will continue for another series.

It was something that was just crazy to say, drafting someone at pick 1 and then putting them down like that. But at Carlton they are not the best when it comes to complimenting people. This is what they said to Veszpremi when he visited them one time. Being called what Leigh Matthews was should be a good thing.
From The Age:
Patrick Veszpremi, who trained at Carlton, was told by an assistant coach that his skills were already AFL-ready, but that he wouldn't get there if he was a "Barney Rubble" — short and too wide.

Naitanui was 6cm shorter than Kreuzer, although he may grow a bit in the next 12 months, so that isn't ruckman size at the moment. For next year, the key position player Michael Hurley could suit Carlton, and there is also the other McKernan.
