Buckley Not Expected To Captain Collingwood In 2007
Buckley surprised many at a function at Federation Square yesterday when he announced that it was time for him to relinquish the captaincy of the Collingwood Football Club.
I would wait for an official announcement, as their President usually has a say in these things. He would probably want one more year from Buckley as captain. A few players have been talked out of retirement this season, so even when things are said they don't always happen.
Nathan Buckley said James Clement should be captain. There are not many other candidates for the position, Scott Burns or Anthony Rocca could be an option for the next year or two, while Josh Fraser and Alan Didak are younger players who may get a look.
Collingwood like tradition, so down the road it could be Heath Shaw as captain.
But right now, at least unofficially, it looks like Buckley will step down as captain and James Clement will assume the responsibility.

It is possible that Collingwood has a new captain and new president next season, now Pert has been talked about to replace Eddie so he might like Clement as they have a few things in common as they were both backmen who went to Collingwood from other teams.
