AFL Versus The World - Strongman Competition

Farmer's Walk - Daniel Merrett
Fingal's Fingers - Will Minson
Car Walk - Dean Brogan
Atlas Stones - Aaron Sandilands

There is the World's Strongest Man competition, which is for individual competitors, as well as other strength events that have teams competing. These team competitions have relays with the team of strongmen being timed as they complete several tasks of strength.

A strong person is needed for the Farmer's Walk, and maybe Merrett could stroll along with 300 pounds in each hand. The Fingal's Fingers are giant poles, a bit like big goal-posts, that are hinged at the ground and need to be lifted from the horizontal to past the vertical, strength and height are assets for this event and Minson might be a good choice.

Dean Brogan has been important in the engine room of the Port Adelaide midfield, in this strength event he would replace the engine as the car would be put on his shoulders and he would walk along with it. The Atlas Stones are giant rocks that need to be lifted onto a platform, taller competitors have the advantage here, especially if they can get their arms around the entire boulder, so maybe big Sandilands could do it.

Additional Competitors:
Ben Rutten - Husafell Stone (a giant rock, very heavy and difficult to hold)
Brendon Lade - Keg Toss (throwing large kegs over a high wall)
Quinten Lynch - Truck Pull (a truck is pulled along a course in this timed event)

Leave a comment to suggest other worthy AFL players for the strength events.

The relay events in strength competitions seem to only use 4 competitors. But for this post, extra events and footballers for them will be added.

So Rutten can carry the Husafell Stone. That is a tough event, more difficult than the Farmer's Walk due to the shape of the stone and how it has to be carried.

Thank you for your comment, and anyone can suggest other AFL players with great strength who would be suited to this sport.

He was being considered, and now that he has been nominated he will be added. The truck pull seemed like something that would suit him.

Except for the Farmer's Walk, the other three events that were posted first do give an advantage to taller people. The Fingal's Fingers is difficult for the shorter competitors, while in the Car Walk some of the shorter strongmen don't get enough clearance for the car and often the wheels hit the road. There was one World's Strongest Man when the Atlas Stones cost a shorter guy, maybe Bill Kazmaier, the title because he couldn't reach high enough, so Sandilands wouldn't have a problem with reach.

Many of the lifting events, like the dead lift where barrels keep getting added or the car lift, do favour the shorter strongmen. So someone will have to suggest the strongest AFL players at 185cm or less.
