AFL Player Of The Week: Round 9
Luke Hodge of the Hawthorn Hawks.
The Hawks needed to have something special happen for them to defeat the Eagles. As Franklin and Roughead were held to one goal an unexpected source for goals was something that Hawthorn required and Luke Hodge turned the game with his three goals.
Hodge didn't just trade in his usual number of possessions for an increase in goals, he still got the ball as he always does. He didn't take a quarter off as he made an impact in every term and finished with 23 possessions. Nearly all of them hit their target.
While there have been times when Luke Hodge, and Luke Ball, didn't measure up to the third pick in their draft, on the weekend it was a case of Eagles' fans looking at Judd and saying "I wish he was as good as Luke Hodge". Judd was very good on the weekend but Hodge was great, so Luke Hodge is the AFL Player Of The Week.

Maybe there was someone during the third quarter, who watched Hodge kicking goals and Judd sitting on the bench, who thought that Hodge would not have been a bad player to have if Judd had a gone a pick or two earlier in the draft.
