AFL Player Of The Week: Round 8
Brent Harvey of the Kangaroos.
The Kangaroos had a very bad start to the season and have now turned it all around and their win streak is currently at 5 games. During the first three games the Kangaroos had great performances from Brent Harvey, and although many of his teammates have now hit good form it is still Harvey playing the best. For round 8, not only was he the best Kangaroo but also the best of any player for the round as he led the Kangaroos to a win over Carlton.
Brent Harvey provided as many goals on Saturday night as the Saints did as an entire team, the Saints were playing at the same time as Harvey battled the Blues. St Kilda kicked 6 goals on the MCG, Brent Harvey kicked 3 goals himself and also assisted in 3 goals for his teammates at Carrara. Harvey didn't waste his opportunities as he didn't kick any behinds, although figuratively speaking he did kick the behind of whichever Carlton player was assigned to him.
Brent Harvey's career has been about hardness at the ball, hard running and precise disposals. Every one of those facets of his game was on display on the Gold Coast. He had 5 clearances as he and Harris worked hard at the stoppages. Harvey also found space when his team had the ball, and he often turned defending into attacking as he took the ball from half back and ran through the centre to either kick a goal or pass to a forward. Harvey had 32 possessions, a very small percentage of them missed their target.
It is difficult to be the best Harvey in the AFL, as Robert isn't slowing down, but Brent Harvey is not just the best Harvey but is also the AFL Player Of The Week.
