AFL Insider Power Rankings: July 30 2007

1: Geelong Cats 14-3 win-loss record (1 in last AFL Power Rankings)
It's top versus bottom with Geelong hosting Richmond, they don't need it but it could be a big percentage booster.

2: West Coast Eagles 11-6 (2)
They will have a tough game on Sunday against Fremantle.

3: Port Adelaide Power 11-6 (5)
They can nearly lock up a top 4 spot, and eliminate the Crows from the finals, with a win next week.

4: Hawthorn Hawks 10-7 (3)
Without Mitchell and Franklin, Hawthorn are not very good. They should have them back for their next game.

5: Collingwood Magpies 10-7 (4)
Collingwood will be thinking their record will be 13 and 7 soon, as they now play teams down the very bottom of the ladder. Clement should return too, he is a player that would have been useful against the Lions.

6: Kangaroos 12-5 (6)
It is off to Queensland, but as the away team. The Kangaroos need to keep winning, they may be in second spot but they only have the 8th best percentage.

7: Sydney Swans 9-8 (7)
Hall doesn't look like he has any injury problems and he should not have any problems with the Melbourne back line too. The Swans had a big game from C Bolton which was important with Leo Barry out.

8: Western Bulldogs 9-8 (8)
They are in trouble and need to turn things around quickly. Luke Darcy must be first on the list to go, he is giving them nothing. Their season is on the line next week, and as the Bulldogs struggle with taller teams they could be in trouble against Riewoldt, Gehrig and Koschitzke.

9: St Kilda Saints 9-8 (10)
Three wins in a row and the Saints are now a real finals contender.

10: Essendon Bombers 9-8 (11)

They probably think they can win the next four matches. Hawthorn were terrible in their last game so Essendon will be confident of a win there. The game after that is against Fremantle, they will be in 2008 mode. The Blues and Tigers are the next two teams they play.

11: Brisbane Lions 8-8-1 (12)
They had around two months with only a draw, and that was against Richmond, and now they have a huge winning streak. They haven't lost with Leuenberger in the team, although that isn't why they are winning now. They are getting a lot of run through the middle and their forwards are kicking accurately for goal.

12: Adelaide Crows 8-9 (9)
Just too many injuries. Their remaining schedule also is a reason why their season really could be over. They play the Power, Cats, Bulldogs, Lions and Magpies.

13: Fremantle Dockers 7-10 (13)
They might have to rest some of their veterans, and even say goodbye to a few of the older ones. It might be tempting to play a couple of players in their last game on the weekend against the Eagles, if they are going to go out they may as well go out fighting.

14: Melbourne Demons 3-14 (14)
Expect another big loss as they travel for a home game against the Swans. At least their VFL side is successful.

15: Richmond Tigers 1-15-1 (15)
Richmond fans will want to watch the score from the other game on Saturday, as they still need to cheer on Carlton to get one more win, for the draft pick. It might also give them something else to do at Kardinia Park if the game becomes unwatchable. That may not happen, at least for a half or so, as Richmond provided some highlights against Sydney. Riewoldt's goal from the centre square was impressive and other young players like Edwards were good too.

16: Carlton Blues 4-13 (16)
They didn't win with their new coach. So the longest current losing streak in the AFL continues.
