AFL Fantasy Player Notes - Staker In The Middle At West Coast

The Eagles lost a lot of their midfield power during the offseason, but they still have plenty of capable players to fill their onball group. Staker was used occasionally as a ruckman early in 2007 when Dean Cox was out, this time Staker could be in the midfield with Cox directing the ball to him.

From the West Coast site: Staker to plug Eagles’ midfield

“We’ll wait and see whether Stenglein’s fit as well – he probably won’t play,” he said. “So it’s a great opportunity. Jamie McNamara, Matt Priddis, David Wirrpanda, Brent Staker, Will Schofield, Shannon Hurn – there’s a lot of different guys that we will potentially have a look at through there.”

In close to 100 matches for the club, Staker hasn’t laid claim to a permanent position, but Worsfold said his ability to pinch-hit for the side was very valuable.

AFL Fantasy Impact:

At various times during his career, Staker has put together a few weeks of great fantasy stats but then been injured, dropped by West Coast or played in a different spot for lower stats. If he can secure a permanent spot in the Eagles' midfield it will help his fantasy points.

McNamara showed potential last season. He would be a good player to have on a fantasy bench. Hurn has the skills, if he gets a role in the middle he could become a star fantasy player.

I dont like Staker as a midfeilder i would rather him as a Key forward. After all last season the Eagles had alot of trouble scoring goals when Hansen was injured or when Lynch wasn't up and running like he was in 2006. So i beleive Staker could be the answer to their scoring problems in 2008.
