AFL Fantasy Player Notes - Carlton's Fisher To Miss A Few Games

Whitnall and Mr Kennedy are gone, and now Brad Fisher will miss a few games with a hand injury. Fevola has the whole forward line to himself, something that he won’t mind.

From the Carlton site: Fisher’s bad break

The 70-gamer, now in his sixth season at senior level, underwent surgery on Monday afternoon to have a pin inserted in his thumb.

Fisher is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

From The Age: Fisher out for 8 weeks

"We have four weeks, nearly five, before the first round, so he could miss three to four weeks of the season," Icke said. "… Putting the pin in should help the recovery but I think it would be safe to assume he will miss round one.

Having lost Josh Kennedy through the Judd trade and with a preference for Jarrad Waite to hold down centre half-back, the club had developed a hole at centre half-forward it was hoping Fisher could fill. "We have a few options for players we will look at," Icke said. "Richard Hadley is waiting to come back (from injury) and he could play that role. He has played similar roles for Brisbane and he is some chance to play this weekend."

AFL Fantasy Impact:

Brad Fisher was not going to be their real centre half forward, but in terms of fantasy footy stats and also helping Carlton as an option behind Fevola he is just as important. The idea at Carlton seemed to be that they would just place a big body at centre half forward, like Hartlett or Hampson, with Fevola their primary forward and Fisher next in line.

With Fisher out, they could replace him with someone like Grigg, Wiggins or Edwards. All those three have similar characteristics to Fisher, with covering plenty of ground and being a good mark of the football.

Maybe, for a few games at least, their centre half forward does get a lot more of the ball directed to them. Hartlett and Hampson are inexpensive in fantasy leagues and worth looking at. C Cloke and S O’hAilpin are other options Carlton have for centre half forward, but they are not cheap in fantasy leagues. Cain Ackland is between those two above groups on fantasy price.

Fevola was going to have plenty of the ball directed towards him even if Fisher was there, so for the opening rounds it would seem that Fevola would be expected to have more stats than he usually does.
