AFL Fantasy News: Lions Rhan All Over the Eagles

Tredrea had the Power storming home in the final minutes but when the margin was less than a goal Akermanis took over and his two goals in a minute got the Bulldogs the win. For the Heritage Round, Port Adelaide got to wear their stripes, while Westhoff's hairstyle must have been inspired by the 1970s as well. Westhoff didn’t kick his usual amount of goals, but he did a couple of amazing plays that showed how agile he is for someone at his height. West spent most of the game on the bench with an injury so he could be in doubt for next round.

Bulldogs 133 - Power 113

Fantasy Player News

Western Bulldogs
Akermanis: 15 kicks, 3 goals and 4 tackles.
Everitt: An exciting debut, 11 possessions and 7 marks.
Darcy: He could have been dropped by the Bulldogs after some bad games, turned it around here with 23 disposals and 11 marks.
Johnson: 5 goals and 4 frees received provided plenty of fantasy points.
Boyd: 31 possessions and 10 tackles as he again takes on the role of Cross in the middle.

Port Adelaide
Cassisi: 38 possessions, 8 tackles and 2 goals, a huge game for fantasy points.
Thomson: 12 handballs and 5 kicks, he should be playing next week.
Tredrea: 4 goals helped along his fantasy points, 3 of the goals were kicked late in the game.
Boak: A much better player this week, he had 23 possessions and 8 marks but gave away 3 free kicks.
Carlile: A quiet game, 6 disposals, so he may not do a lot for fantasy points this season.

Wet weather often shows the players that have the best skills and Dale Thomas had a big influence on the result here. While his hair may have been contained by the rain, the Saints couldn't contain Thomas. When the game was there to be won Thomas stepped up, and he might have finished with one less goal than he deserved.

Fantasy Player News

Collingwood
Thomas: 7 tackles, 8 marks, 15 kicks, 2 goals and 3 frees received produced a lot of fantasy points.
Reid: Rocca is back next week so Reid won't be getting a lot of stats if he plays, Reid kicked 2 points and no goals.
Swan: 24 kicks, 5 handballs, 11 marks, 3 tackles and a goal.
Fraser: Good news for fantasy coaches who have him as Bryan and Richards were out of the team, Fraser had 20 disposals, 21 total hitouts and 2 goals.
Iles: Not the first picked for their team, his 19 possessions and 4 tackles might see him play a bit more.

St Kilda
Gehrig: Not the ideal conditions for a big forward but he did get 4 goals.
S Fisher: 25 kicks, 5 handballs, 14 marks and 2 free kicks received.
Gilbert: He has become one of the surprise stars of the fantasy season, he had 16 disposals, 7 tackles and a goal.
Koschitzke: He played but didn't do a lot, his stats included a goals, 3 marks and 11 total hitouts.
Maguire: 12 disposals in his first game back from injury.

Hawthorn haven't played as bad as this since the 1970s, so the AFL's Heritage Round used the appropriate decade to commemorate. The Hawks never got going and Adelaide had winning players all over the ground. The forward line doesn't function too well for the Crows but for this game it was led by Ricciuto with 4 goals and Welsh, Bock, McGregor and Maric also contributed.

Crows 102 - Hawks 31

Fantasy Player News

Adelaide
Ricciuto: Could be added to a few more fantasy teams now, he kicked 4 goals and had 17 disposals.
McLeod: Ran around without an opponent for a lot of the game, great for fantasy points with 39 possessions.
Thompson: 19 kicks, 20 handballs and 8 marks.
Edwards: 41 possessions, also had 10 marks and a goal.
Maric: Used in Griffin's role, Maric had 8 disposals, 5 marks and 2 goals.

Hawthorn
Ladson: 30 possessions, a big increase on his usual production.
Gilham: 8 tackles provided some unexpected fantasy points, also added 12 possessions and 6 marks.
Lewis: 3 free kicks received as well as 27 possessions and 8 marks made him one of the Hawks' better players for this game.
Ellis: Might have cemented a regular spot after 21 possessions and 7 marks, still cheap in fantasy leagues.
Birchall: 13 kicks, 15 handballs and 5 marks.

It was a night of upsets, the Iron Chef lost his contest and the Eagles went down to Brisbane. Brennan, Copeland and Hooper gave the needed support to Brown up forward. The Lions' Leuenberger Era started off with a win and their huge ruck prospect looked like he belonged as he went against Cox and Seaby. A first round pick in the 2006 AFL Draft, Leuenberger didn't play a lot of minutes but he moved very well for someone his height and made a couple of useful plays. Fitzroy's jumper was there once again for a big win, while Richmond fans got to see Judd in a black and yellow uniform. Judd was a bit sore at the end of the game, Kerr left a Lion a bit sore in the head so he might be in trouble on Monday.

Lions 91 - Eagles 64

Fantasy Player News

Brisbane
Brennan: 8 marks and 9 kicks, he kicked 4 goals and 3 behinds.
Notting: 20 kicks, 11 handballs, 13 marks, 4 tackles and a goal.
Lappin: 20 kicks as he ran all game.
Hooper: His speed around goals really helped the Lions, he didn't help fantasy teams with 3 behinds, but he did have 9 kicks and 7 marks.
Leuenberger: 3 possessions and 4 hitouts but he should keep his spot in the team and will increase his production.

West Coast
Judd: 35 possessions, but left the field in the last quarter.
Priddis: 32 possessions as he keeps his spot in the middle for another week or two.
LeCras: 4 goals by LeCras was a good result.
Cox: 26 disposals, 5 free kicks for and 21 total hitouts.
Wirrpanda: 29 possessions, a lot of his fantasy points this year have come as a forward but he was in the back line for this game.
