AFL Fantasy News: Hawthorn Hero Hodge's Happy 100th
Lance Franklin did not play, nobody noticed. Roughead took over the role as the left-footed goal scorer, Hodge kicked a bunch and the Hawks had one of their biggest wins in the past decade. Different reports had different injuries regarding Franklin, it might have been a calf or back injury that occurred at training. With the extra week of rest he should be available for round 13. Xavier Ellis did take Franklin’s spot in the side, Ellis kicked a goal and had a solid game.
In the battle of the former Saints, Joel Smith did enough to keep the young stars of the Hawks, like Thorp and Kennedy, from getting his spot in the team with a big game of 26 disposals and 13 marks. But Matthew Lappin could only be described as an embarrassment, he provided not one but two of the lowlights of the match. Early in the game, Sewell handballed in his direction but Lappin fumbled the ball which allowed Sewell to recover and make it a contest, which Lappin was severely disgraced in. Lappin ended the game worse than he started, as his kick in the back line went straight to a Hawk who kicked a goal. The contest between a couple of former Power players wasn't as newsworthy, Guerra got some kicks and Ackland got a whack to the nose. A couple of former Bombers were also at opposite ends of the field, Jacobs had a good game and Bannister's recent good form disappeared into the fog.
