AFL Fantasy News For Round 5
Fantasy teams have to be finalized tomorrow for round 5. Here are the players who did have an injury and now could be playing on the weekend, and their availability could affect other players on their teams. Also listed are some players who were injured last round.
Adelaide
You wouldn't expect many changes to the team that defeated the Swans.

If you are going to have Lappin as a starter then make sure there is an emergency midfielder on your team too. Maybe it is a good time to sign Brown, he will be kicking a lot better this week. Roe was a good player last week, it might be the right time to buy him as he will be better this game and should be a star for fantasy points for the rest of the year.
Nigel Lappin (thigh) - test
Troy Selwood (back) - test
Carlton
Waite hasn't been the fantasy star he could have been, but with Brad Fisher out of the lineup it could mean his stats go up. Josh Kennedy might also have a bigger role over the next month. If you had Fisher then trade him, he was a good investment at the start of the year and brought in a lot of fantasy points and also increased in value. Carlton players will have the ball a lot more this week, so don’t drop anyone by judging them on their stats last week.
Brad Fisher (cheekbone) - 3-4 weeks
Fremantle
Michael Johnson should return as his suspension is now over. Warnock might be included to assist Sandilands. The Dockers have a much tougher game this week, so some players will see a drop in stats compared to what they did against Melbourne.
Shane Parker (groin) - test
Robert Haddrill (knee) - 1 week
Geelong
G Ablett still played great after returning to the field and going into the forward line after having an injury against the Hawks. But better to be safe and have a forward named as an emergency if you have G Ablett in your fantasy forward line.
Gary Ablett (calf) - test
Hawthorn
Young has been one of the best fantasy players who started at a low price. There are a few options here, he has gone up in price and could be traded for another good midfielder. Leaving him on the bench or having an emergency at his position are other options for fantasy coaches.
Rick Ladson (knee) - test
Joel Smith (knee) - test
Clinton Young (shoulder) - test
Richie Vandenberg (hamstring) - 1 week
Kangaroos
They might give Thomas a break this week. For fantasy teams, he should be on the bench anyway. The Kangaroos won a game and might be reluctant to alter their team too much, that is good news for fantasy coaches.
Lindsay Thomas (chest) - test
Melbourne
These are just some of their players with short-term injuries. Melbourne won't have an easy game against Sydney so maybe wait a week to see if a few star players are returning from injury.
Daniel Bell (concussion) - test
Nathan Brown (calf) - test
Travis Johnstone (hamstring) - test
Brent Moloney (groin) - test
David Neitz (knee) - test
Jared Rivers (hamstring) - test
Paul Wheatley (shoulder) - test
Nathan Jones (ankle) - 2-3 weeks
Matthew Whelan (hamstring) - 2-3 weeks
Port Adelaide
It doesn't seem that Brogan will play, but Pearce could be a chance. C Cornes may not be as effective this week as he won't be able to roam around as much, with the Saints a chance to have Gehrig, Riewoldt and Koschitzke up forward. Of course Cornes will still be good for fantasy points, but it might not be a week to play him as a fantasy captain.
Dean Brogan (ankle) - test
Daniel Motlop (ankle) - test
Danyle Pearce (hamstring) - test
Richmond
Forget about Brown this week. Too risky to have him in a fantasy team at the moment. Richmond is also a possibility to cause fantasy teams problems this week as they could change around their team a lot. So maybe don't sign any fringe players there for this week.
Nathan Brown (leg) - test
St Kilda
Their best 3 tall defenders are out. Maybe Koschitzke goes to the back line, but he probably starts up forward and moves if things go bad with Tredrea. Koschitzke at full back might not be the best spot for fantasy points. Blake might get the job on Tredrea. Gehrig might be someone to sign, he should have lots of energy after missing a week.
Barry Brooks (hamstring) - 1-2 weeks
Sam Fisher (hamstring) - 3-4 weeks
Sydney
Buchanan could be replaced in the team by Davis. Fantasy coaches might wait a week until signing Davis. But Buchanan will have to be traded.
Nick Davis (foot) - test
Amon Buchanan (knee) - indefinite
West Coast
The Eagles won't need to rush any help into the team for their round 5 game. They can let Butler have another week off.
Sam Butler (groin) - test
Western Bulldogs
Akermanis, Cross and Power could all be playing, according to their coach. If Cross is on your team, put him in as a starter and have an emergency ready too. Akermanis wasn't a big fantasy points player in the early rounds so don't be in a rush to sign him.
