AFL Draft - Results As They Happen

1 – Carlton: Matthew Kreuzer

First Thought: The only choice to make.

2 – Richmond: Trent Cotchin

First Thought: Another Deledio.

3 – West Coast: Chris Masten

First Thought: Small, but very effective.

4 – Melbourne: Cale Morton

First Thought: Nothing wrong with that, and with him and Petterd running from half back they will be good in that area.

5 – Western Bulldogs: Jarrad Grant

First Thought: Wasted pick.

6 – Essendon: David Myers

First Thought: A big midfielder, with speed and skill, good move.

7 – Fremantle: Rhys Palmer

First Thought: They should be happy.

8 – Brisbane: Lachlan Henderson

First Thought: Where does he play, maybe in the back half.

9 – St Kilda: Ben McEvoy

First Thought: Now they have two Koschitzkes.

10 – Adelaide: Patrick Dangerfield

First Thought: Too early, not what the Crows need.

11 – Sydney: Patrick Veszpremi

First Thought: Good fit for how they play.

12 – Hawthorn: Cyril Rioli

First Thought: Nice, will be a great addition up forward.

13 – West Coast: Brad Ebert

First Thought: Great pick.

14 – Melbourne: Jack Grimes

First Thought: Solid, a good building block for the new team.

15 – Kangaroos: Robbie Tarrant

First Thought: Crazy pick.

16 – Port Adelaide: Matthew Lobbe

First Thought: Wow, early.

17 – Geelong: Harry Taylor

First Thought: Not good, no way he is better than Rance.

18 – Richmond: Alex Rance

First Thought: Worth pick 2. Tigers need a player like him.

19 – Western Bulldogs: Callan Ward

First Thought: Another wasted pick. They need big footballers, not more athletes.

20 – West Coast: Tony Notte

First Thought: Great investment for the future.

21 – Melbourne: Addam Maric

First Thought: An extra option up forward.

22 – West Coast: Scott Selwood

First Thought: Keeping it in the family.

23 – Essendon: Tayte Pears

First Thought: Great choice. Replacement for Michael or Fletcher eventually, but can help next year.

24 – Fremantle: Clayton Hinkley

First Thought: Odd. They did mess things up last year, but maybe this works, at least he is quick.

25 – Brisbane: Tom Collier

First Thought: Steal. Plenty of height with their first two choices.

26 – Sydney: Brett Meredith

First Thought: Another Sydney type of player. But Swans did go small with all their picks.

27 – Adelaide: Andy Otten

First Thought: Might play in the middle, to give them some size.

28 – Port Adelaide: Marlon Motlop

First Thought: A great club for small forwards.

29 – Hawthorn: Brendan Whitecross

First Thought: Another small.

30 – Adelaide: Jarrhan Jacky

First Thought: Some pace for the midfield.

31 – Collingwood: John McCarthy

First Thought: Versatile, good for their depth.

32 – Kangaroos: Levi Greenwood

First Thought: A player who can contribute next year. Should quickly become a fan favourite.

33 – Port Adelaide: Matthew Westhoff

First Thought: They wanted the guy above, probably. More brothers.

34 – Geelong: Dawson Simpson

First Thought: Great pick as they have no immediate need, and they can be patient with big Simpson.

35 – Western Bulldogs: Sam Reid

First Thought: He's not big. Another Jordan McMahon.

36 – Carlton: Steven Browne

First Thought: Not a big forward. Probably don't need another midfielder when they don't have a real centre half forward.

37 – Kangaroos: Scott Thompson

First Thought: Ready to help next year.

38 – Adelaide: Myke Cook

First Thought: They have added plenty of new midfielders.

39 – Essendon (Darcy Daniher – Father/son)

First Thought: Worth this pick.

40 – Fremantle: Chris Mayne

First Thought: A different option up forward.

41 – Brisbane: James Polkinghorne

First Thought: A solid and dependable player, and Brisbane might use him in a back pocket.

42 – St Kilda: Jack Steven

First Thought: Might be another Brad Howard, or might be a good pick.

43 – Western Bulldogs: Easton Wood

First Thought: Just showing off, when there were a lot of solid and somewhat proven players still around, like the guy taken with the next pick.

44 – Geelong: Scott Simpson

First Thought: A great draft for Geelong.

45 – Hawthorn: Stuart Dew

First Thought: A good move. Him and Rioli will be great for their forward line. They didn't take a big backman, but Renouf might be the answer there.

46 – Carlton: Dennis Armfield

First Thought: Another midfielder, not their greatest need.

47 – Collingwood: Toby Thoolan

First Thought: A future replacement for Wakelin and Prestigiacomo.

48 – Western Bulldogs: Jarrad Boumann

First Thought: At least he is tall, but won't help soon.

49 – Port Adelaide: Mitchell Farmer

First Thought: Will do what is neccessary for team success, should be a good fit with their coach.

50 – Geelong: Dan McKenna

First Thought: The hits keep on coming, the Cats might have won the draft. Would need to be a defender at Geelong.

51 – Richmond: Dean Putt

First Thought: Good pick.

52 – Brisbane: Bradd Dalziell

First Thought: Two D's for his first name, and then another starting off his last name. It's 3-D.

53 – Melbourne: Kyle Cheney

First Thought: Might be a back pocket for Melbourne.

54 – Essendon: Cale Hooker

First Thought: Big, but there won't be a spot for him up forward there.

55 – Fremantle: Mark Johnson

First Thought: Good to have friends at other clubs.

56 – Brisbane: Matt Austin

First Thought: Midfielder, with some size.

57 – St Kilda: Fraser Gehrig

First Thought: Made sure they got him.

58 – Adelaide: Tony Armstrong

First Thought: More midfield help.

59 – Sydney (Craig Bird – NSW scholarship holder)

First Thought: Future star in the midfield.

60 – Geelong (Adam Donohue – Father/son)

First Thought: Will be difficult for him to get into the lineup in the next couple of years.

61 – Collingwood (Jaxson Barham – Father/son)

First Thought: It's great how they continue their tradition, and for once the father/son choice isn't a Cloke or Shaw.

62 – Kangaroos: Josh Smith

First Thought: Another J Smith. With this new Smith, as well as Tarrant, it looks like they are not impressed with Hale up forward.

63 – Western Bulldogs: Guy O'Keefe

First Thought: He might be able to play, but the Bulldogs already have a lot of similar players.

64 – Richmond: PASS

First Thought: Guy Richards in the preseason draft, maybe.

65 – Carlton: PASS

First Thought:

66 – Melbourne: Tom McNamara

First Thought: They have improved their back line.

67 – Western Bulldogs: PASS

First Thought: That will mean Scott Welsh in the preseason draft.

68 – Essendon: PASS

First Thought:

69 – Fremantle: Kepler Bradley

First Thought: On the way to Essendon West.

70 – St Kilda: Eljay Connors

First Thought: Another little guy there.

71 – Adelaide: Aaron Kite

First Thought: A bit more height, after going with so many smalls earlier.

72 – Kangaroos: Blake Grima

First Thought: Would have been better picking someone new.

73 – Melbourne: PASS

First Thought:

74 – Fremantle: PASS

First Thought:

75 – Adelaide (Taylor Walker – NSW scholarship holder)

First Thought: Better than most of the players drafted ahead of him.
