AFL By The Numbers: 29 Matthew Pavlich

29
Matthew Pavlich.
Forward for the Fremantle Dockers.

The only problem that Pavlich causes for the Dockers is that they only have one of him, he is their leading goal-scorer, an All-Australian full back or a dominating midfielder and can star in any position.

The Dockers were lucky that Pavlich was still there at pick 4 of the 1999 AFL draft. Fremantle have not always been successful with high draft picks, but Pavlich was always going to be a star.

Every season Pavlich improves, and his Brownlow votes agree with this as they have increased every year. In 2006 he received his most ever Brownlow votes, 15, as he also set career highs for goals and marks in a season.

Pavlich once had 18 marks in a single game. He also has kicked 9 goals in a game. With other game-highs over his career of 32 possessions, 8 hitouts and also 8 tackles, it shows what a versatile and skilful player he is.

While one player is never usually more important than a club, if Pavlich were to leave when his contract expired then the Dockers would take years to recover.
