AFL By The Numbers: 21 Jason Akermanis
21
Jason Akermanis.
Midfielder for the Western Bulldogs.
It only takes a five minute burst for Akermanis to turn a game. The Lions won plenty of games thanks to Akermanis and now the Bulldogs benefit.
Akermanis started his AFL career with the Bears in 1995, he had an immediate impact with 19 possessions in his first game.
He was very good in his early years of AFL and he stepped up his game starting in 1999. For the next six or so seasons he would record around 300 kicks, 100 marks and he scored plenty of goals. In season 2002 Akermanis scored 49 goals and in 2004 he kicked 44 goals.
It was the finals games during Brisbane's big run when Akermanis played at his best. 5 goals and 18 kicks against Collingwood in 2003 was his best effort.
The football world was surprised last year when Akermanis announced that he wanted to play for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs didn't spend a lot to acquire him, just a late second rounder. Akermanis didn't do a lot in his first couple of games for the Bulldogs, except hurt himself against the Crows, but he has returned with his familiar run now and is kicking a few goals and setting up plenty of others for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs have a home game in Canberra, it helps them financially.
