AFL By The Numbers: 17 Chris Tarrant
17
Chris Tarrant.
Forward for the Fremantle Dockers.
There was a lot of excitement about the top 10 of the 1997 draft, which included C Cornes and Power, and the player who provided the most highlights was Chris Tarrant who was pick 8. So in that draft the Magpies drafted a future Docker, while Fremantle would use pick 26 on Brodie Holland who would eventually become a Magpie.
The first couple of years of Tarrant's AFL career were not very successful, as the Magpies were in a rebuilding mode. Tarrant's play picked up in season 2000 and Collingwood's fortunes also turned around. Tarrant would play in the AFL Grand Finals against Brisbane in 2002 and 2003. It was in 2003 that Tarrant produced his best numbers with over 50 goals, 200 marks and 300 kicks.
After the 2006 season it was time for Tarrant to move, and there were plenty of teams that wanted him. The Dockers won the race for Tarrant, sending players and picks to Collingwood and Richmond, who were also part of the complicated deal. The Magpies got a player for now, Medhurst, and a star for later, Reid, so they did very well with the trade. Tarrant got his wish to play on Subiaco, and now teams with Pavlich in a versatile attack.
