AFL A Safer Place For Soft Players
The soft players of football can stop hiding now with the news that Mark Ricciuto will be retiring at the end of the season. Ricciuto played a lot of games, kicked a huge amount of goals, won plenty of awards and just as importantly he played the game the right way. Ricciuto attacked the ball, and also anyone unfortunate enough to be between him and the ball.
Ricciuto started in the back line, played in the midfield and was also a successful forward. The Crows could put him anywhere and expect a match-winning performance.
The Crows are going to be without an onfield link to their early days with Ricciuto gone. When Ricciuto first played for the Crows he was out there with players like Andrew Jarman, Wayne "The Weed" Weidemann and Scott Hodges.
AFL fans are going to rue the day that Roo called it a day, as the league loses a player who kicked the ball hard every time and competed as hard as any other player around. If a Crows game from 1993 is shown on TV it is a good idea to watch, from his first game of his career Ricciuto was sending bodies flying.
